Ebook "Seed biology and yield of grain crops (2nd edition)" of an established title examines the determination of grain crop yield from a unique perspective, by concentrating on the influence of the seed itself. As the food supply for an expanding world population is based on grain crops harvested for their seeds, understanding the process of seed growth and its regulation is crucial to our efforts to increase production and meet the needs of that population.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of land preparation methods and iron-coated (Fe-coated) rice seeds on the growth, yield, and Fe uptake of rice in alluvial soils in the Mekong Delta region. The experiment was conducted in the 2020 summerautumn cropping season under the triple rice cultivation system in Chau Thanh district, An Giang province.

The changing climate and the desire to use renewable oil sources necessitate the development of new oilseed crops. Field cress (Lepidium campestre) is a species in the Brassicaceae family that has been targeted for domestication not only as an oilseed crop that produces seeds with a desirable industrial oil quality but also as a cover/catch crop that provides valuable ecosystem services.

Rice is one of the most important food crops in the world and mainly cultivated in paddy feld by transplanting seedlings. However, increasing water scarcity due to climate change, labor cost for transplanting, and competition from urbanization is making this traditional method of rice production unsustainable in the long term.

The cultivated peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oil and food crop in the world. Pod- and kernel-related traits are direct factors involved in determining the yield of the peanut. However, the genetic basis underlying pod- and kernel-related traits in the peanut remained largely unknown, which hampered the improvement of peanut through marker-assisted selection.

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is a pseudo cereal crop, which is considered a new alternative crop due to its high nutritional value and tolerance to environmental stresses. Its seeds are rich in proteins and amino acids (e.g., lysine, threonine, and methionine) that are deficient in other pseudo-cereal crops. It also contains essential fatty acids, such as linoleic, and alpha-linolenic acids, and high quantities of vitamins, e.g., riboflavin (B2), and tocopherol (vitamin E), and inorganic nutrients.

Due to the diversity of rice varieties and cropping systems in China, the limitation of seeding density and seedling quality makes it hard to improve machine-transplanted efficiency. Previous studies have shown that indica and japonica varieties varied in machine transplanting efficiency and optimal seeding density.

The present study hypothesized that ruzigrass seed treatment and sowing density and period influence seed germination and seedling establishment and that physical and/or allelopathic effects of the leaves and petioles of soybean cultivars are a major factor for interseeding success. To test these hypotheses, the influences of seed treatment, sowing density, time, and soybean cultivar on the emergence of ruzigrass seedlings in a soybean interseeding system were evaluated with the aim of mitigating environmental effects in the establishment of forage in succession to soybean.
