Siberian stone pine (Pinus sibirica Du Tour) is a cone-bearing species with outstanding nutritious seeds, health-supporting properties, and nut oil. Currently, the main volume of pine nuts is harvested in natural forests, which causes damage to ecosystems. The best solution to this problem would be harvesting nuts on special pine nut plantations established on the basis of high-seeding clones. However, it is hampered by the low efficiency of the existing methods for assessing plus-tree productivity.

The bioactive compounds are extra nutritional constituent that typically occur in small quantities in seeds, bark, fruit, foods and other plant parts. They are being intensively studied to evaluate their effects on health. The results of many epidemiologic studies have shown protective effects of plant-based diets/phenolics on cancer. Many bioactive compounds have been discovered.

In the present investigation, an effort has been made to prepare functionally enriched multigrain bread. The multigrain grain bread was composed of wheat and germinated kodo millet seeds (multigrain flour) in different ratios (30:70, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40 and 70:30). Among these, 50:50 ratio was standardized for further studies. Two sets are formulated i.e. Control and Set A. The nutritional evaluation of this product when compared with the commercial wheat bread was found out to be very rich in proteins, fibers and antioxidants.

Sheath rot disease caused by S. oryzae has emerged as one of the major diseases of rice inflicting yield losses ranging from 9.6 to 85% depending on the weather conditions. Pesticides are mostly used for its management and application of these chemicals over a long period may result in development of resistance, pesticide residue risk, health and environmental issues which necessitates an alternative economically feasible eco-friendly method for its management.
