The study of path analysis indicated that direct selection of plant height, plant spread, days to first flowering, total number of fruits per plant, fruit length, weight of 100 dry fruits, fruit yield per plant, number of seeds per fruit and capsaicin content could be used as selection criteria for improvement.

Die-back and fruit rot caused by Colletotrichum capsici (Syd.) Butl. and Bisby is the destructive disease in chillies. The effect of Bacillus subtilis talc based formulation in managing the fruit rot disease and inducing resistance in chillies was investigated. B. subtilis strain Bs1 significantly inhibited the growth of C. capsici in vitro. Seed treatment with B. subtilis @ 10 g/kg seed followed by foliar application of B. subtilis @ 10 g/l on 30 and 60 DAP was effective in managing the fruit rot disease and increasing the dry chillies yield under field conditions.

Increased productivity of dry chilli with appreciable fruit quality is the present need in major growing areas to promote export from our country. The present investigation was undertaken to identify important selection indices, and to analyze the genetic divergence of collected germplasm for identification of diverse parents for spice chilli hybridization program. Different components of genetic variability for 15 growth and yield component traits were determined employing 45 genotypes evaluated in autumn-winter season of 2015-16 in Randomized Block Design with three replications.

Trichoderma species are commonly used as biological control agents against phytopathogenic fungi and some isolates are able to improve plant growth. In this study, the effects of seven Trichoderma isolates from Madhya Pradesh was examined in chilli for enhancing seedling and plant vigor via two way introduction methods (inoculating seed with Trichoderma as seed treatment and also seed treatment with three foliar sprays). Different isolates of Trichoderma spp. significantly influenced the root length, shoot length and number of leaves of chilli at seedling stage.

To study the effect of integrated weed management on growth and yield of chilli, an experiment was laid out in randomized block design with nine different treatments for weed management using weedicides, mulches (straw, black polythene) and hand weeding at VRS, SKLTSHU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad.
