De novo heterozygous assembly is an ongoing challenge requiring improved assembly approaches. In this study, three strategies were used to develop de novo Vitis vinifera ‘Sultanina’ genome assemblies for comparison with the inbred V. vinifera (PN40024 12X.v2) reference genome and a published Sultanina ALLPATHS-LG assembly (AP). The strategies were: 1) a default PLATANUS assembly (PLAT_d) for direct comparison with AP assembly, 2) an iterative merging strategy using METASSEMBLER to combine PLAT_d and AP assemblies (MERGE) and 3) PLATANUS parameter modifications plus GapCloser (PLAT*_GC).

Field experiments on the efficacy of novel insecticide molecules and neem products to grape thrips, Scirtohrips dorsalis Hood were conducted in Bijapur and Bagalkot district for two seasons during 2013-14. Among twelve treatments, fipronil 5% SC @ 1.0 ml/l, imidacloprid 17.8% SL @ 0.3 ml/l were significantly superior to other treatments with more than 87 per cent reduction of thrips damage over untreated control.

Insect pests are the important production constraints in grape cultivation next to diseases. Survey of Scirtohrips dorsalis Hood at progressive former field for grape, Bijapur during 2013-14 at weekly, revealed that thrips population was observed immediately after both April and October pruning. Highest population of 14.60 thrips/shoot was observed during third week of May after April pruning, which coincided with inflorescence period.

The technique of raisin production in India is mostly based on the dipping of the grape bunches in emulsion having 2.5% potassium carbonate and 1.5% ethyl oleate for a duration of 2 to 4 minutes, and subsequent shade drying in open tier system (Adsule et al., 2012). Quality is one of the major concerns in raisin production; hence, extensive research is necessary to find the effect of storage temperature on physico-chemical characteristic of raisins prepared from seedless varieties of grapes.

An experiment on effect of bunch load on berry quality, yield, raisin recovery and biochemical parameters in Thompson Seedless grapes grafted on 110-R rootstock was carried out in ICAR National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune during 2015- 16. The crop load was adjusted to 50, 75, 100 and 125 bunches per vine. Increase in number of bunches/vine reduced the leaf area index. Highest LAI (1.24) was observed in treatment with 50 bunches/vine.

Berry size is considered as one of the main selection criteria in table grape breeding programs. However, this is a quantitative and polygenic trait, and its genetic determination is still poorly understood. Considering its economic importance, it is relevant to determine its genetic architecture and elucidate the mechanisms involved in its expression.

Gibberellins (GA3) are the most sprayed growth regulator for table grape production worldwide, increasing berry size of seedless varieties through pericarp cell expansion. However, these treatments also exacerbate berry drop, which has a detrimental effect on the postharvest quality of commercialized clusters.

An investigation was carried out for evaluating the table grape genotypes against incidence of mites in Sector No. 70, UHS, Bagalkot, Karnataka after fore pruning (October) 2016 at different phenological stages. Results revealed that among 12 grape genotypes studied, significantly lowest mites population was recorded in Red Globe (T12) (8.63 mites/sq. inch of leaf) after 115 DAP. Significantly the highest population of mites was recorded in Fantasy Seedless (T10) (14.48 mites/sq. inch of leaf) after 115 DAP. Correlation studies revealed that the incidence of mites per sq.

Prevailing high temperature during harvesting to consumption of grapes in India results in accelerated water loss, faster respiration, physiological weight loss, rachis browning, berry shattering, poor shelf life and finally leads to significant post-harvest losses. Fruit surface is protected by the application of coating to maintain its freshness and shelf life for longer duration.

Grapes are good source of dietary sugars, organic acids and provide good amount of minerals like iron and phosphorus and some vitamins. Among the grape processed products raisins are one of the most important processed products obtained from grapes. The mature, clean and uniform size green grape berries (Thompson seedless) were taken. The berries were treated by using different methods viz. Preyal dip, Australian dip and soda dip. Drying was done at 50 and 60oC to study the effect of drying temperature on quality of raisin. The grape berries were dried from 78 per cent (345.54 per cent, d.

The potential of antioxidants in our diet has attained the major focus now-adays. Grape often termed as ‘Super food of the future’ has been a crop of choice to analyse for various its nutraceuticals. In the present study, the antioxidant activity in terms of CUPRAC was determined for 11 grape hybrids along with their 9 parents. The highest antioxidant activity was exhibited by the genotype ‘Hy.16/2A R1P19’ and among parents, it was found maximum in ‘Beauty Seedless’.
