Seed spices are important commercial crops of arid and semiarid regions of India and accounting major contribution for domestic and export market. In these regions water is one of the main constraint in crop production since the growing areas are deficit in annual rainfall and these crops are grown during winter season requires assured irrigation for successful production.

Recently, abiotic stress like salinity, drought and temperature are the severe problems to worldwide wheat production, mostly in arid and semiarid areas. A feasible solution is breeding for salt-tolerant cultivars of wheat, while the presence of genetic variation is a prerequisite for genetic improvement. In the present investigation, an experiment was conducted to estimate the nature and magnitude of genetic diversity in improved varieties of bread wheat during Rabi, 2010-11.

clusterbean (Cymopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.) An attempt has been made to evaluate the effect of abiotic constraints (drought and temperature) on the growth of rhizobia isolated from clusterbean grown in semiarid regions of Haryana with a view to screen out stress tolerant rhizobial isolates. A total of 158 rhizobial isolates have been used for screening their stress tolerating ability with contrast to environmental abiotic soil conditions commonly prevailing in semi-arid regions of Haryana. All the isolates were phenotypically and biochemically characterized.

Salt-affected soils occur in several countries of the world, especially in the arid and semiarid areas and also in coastal tracts. In India, more than 7.0 million hectares of land is affected by salinity and alkalinity (Anonymous, 2015). In Uttar Pradesh area of saltaffected soil is 1.295 million hectares (Anonymous, 2015). Such soils cannot be economically utilized for crop production because they adversely affect the growth and yield of the crop plants due to adverse physico-chemical properties.

Arid and semiarid regions are illustrious for stressed atmosphere primarily attributable to erratic precipitation, low fertility of soil, leading to low crop productivity with high uncertainty within the field conditions. In arid and semiarid areas all stresses preponderantly drought limits the expansion and yield of crops significantly inflicting the foremost fatal economic losses in agriculture.

Sheep is an important source of livelihood for resource poor farmers in rural areas of semiarid region of Rajasthan. Adoption of improved sheep management practices bears pivotal role to improve the livelihood in such marginalis environments. This study was carried out to assess the adoption of feeding and healthcare management practices by sheep farmers.

Like in the arid and semiarid ecosystems, the northern limit of rainy season crops ecosystems have a dynamic influenced by harsh climatic condition. In addition to this, there is a high demand in goods and services by the over increasing population. The objective of the present study was to analyze land use in pastoral and agropastoral areas in the department of Goudoumaria, located in the South East of Niger. It is an agropastoral areas, where the practice and success of rural activities is based on physical conditions, the repartition and regularity of rainfall.

In recent years due to drought yield of crop is adversely affected. In this context to increase the crop yield by utilising drought prone region, influences of moisture stress tolerant rhizobacteria on growth parameter of sorghum plant were examined under moisture stress conditions. Four autochthonous moisture stress tolerant bacterial strain isolated from semiarid region identified as Serratia marcescens strain L1SC8, Pseudomonas putida strain L3SC1, Enterobacter cloacae strain L1CcC1 and Serratia marcescens strain L2FmA4.

Salt-induced land degradation has gradually increased in several major irrigation schemes within arid and semiarid regions. To maximize crop productivity under saline conditions, either salt tolerance crops should be cultivated or areas should be desalinated.

Maxim, an extreme xeric semi-shrub of Tamaricaceae, is a constructive and dominant species of desert shrub vegetation (Liu et al. 1982; Wang et al., 2011; Bai et al., 2008). It is distributed widely on a large area of sand wasteland (Fig. 1a) and saline land (Fig. 1b) in arid and semiarid regions of central Asia from the western Erdos, Alaskans, Hexi Corridor, Qaidam Basin to Tarim Basin and Jungar Basin (from the east to the west) and forms the vast and distinctive landscape of the salt desert (Liu and Liu, 1996). The distribution of R.
