Recently, abiotic stress like salinity, drought and temperature are the severe problems to worldwide wheat production, mostly in arid and semiarid areas. A feasible solution is breeding for salt-tolerant cultivars of wheat, while the presence of genetic variation is a prerequisite for genetic improvement. In the present investigation, an experiment was conducted to estimate the nature and magnitude of genetic diversity in improved varieties of bread wheat during Rabi, 2010-11.

The study indicated the beneficial effects of drip irrigation in terms of 23.5 % increase in yield and 48.6 % water saving whereas drip with fertigation resulted into 40 to 61 % increase in pomegranate yield as compared to conventional method. The 100 % recommended dose of fertilizer through drip in 20 weekly splits showed 61 % increase in yield (14.6 t ha-1 ).

clusterbean (Cymopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.) An attempt has been made to evaluate the effect of abiotic constraints (drought and temperature) on the growth of rhizobia isolated from clusterbean grown in semiarid regions of Haryana with a view to screen out stress tolerant rhizobial isolates. A total of 158 rhizobial isolates have been used for screening their stress tolerating ability with contrast to environmental abiotic soil conditions commonly prevailing in semi-arid regions of Haryana. All the isolates were phenotypically and biochemically characterized.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the major rabi pulse crop and is a cheap source of protein. It has also advantages in the management of soil fertility particularly in dry lands and the semiarid tropics. Despite of low productivity of chickpea is attributed to Fusarium wilt disease which caused by obligate biotroph Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceri is consider one of the major limiting factor.

India is the largest producer and consumer of the pulses in world. There is a huge shortage of pulses in the country to meet out the domestic demand especially of vegetarian population. The low production and productivity of pulses under Indian condition is mainly due to several biotic and abiotic constraints. In general, the pulses crops are more susceptible to the stresses including weeds as compare to the cereals and oilseeds. It was widely reported that yield losses due to weeds especially in the pulses are more than the loss caused either by insect-pest or diseases.

Arid and semiarid regions are illustrious for stressed atmosphere primarily attributable to erratic precipitation, low fertility of soil, leading to low crop productivity with high uncertainty within the field conditions. In arid and semiarid areas all stresses preponderantly drought limits the expansion and yield of crops significantly inflicting the foremost fatal economic losses in agriculture.

Cactus (Opuntiaficus-indica), commonly known as prickly pear, belongs to the family Cactaceae. It has high water-use efficiency, drought tolerant, survive under erratic and low rainfall and highly useful in arid and semiarid environments, particularly during prolonged dry spells or failure of the monsoon. Cactus is considered as one of the important sources of food and fodder to cattle under arid condition.

Like in the arid and semiarid ecosystems, the northern limit of rainy season crops ecosystems have a dynamic influenced by harsh climatic condition. In addition to this, there is a high demand in goods and services by the over increasing population. The objective of the present study was to analyze land use in pastoral and agropastoral areas in the department of Goudoumaria, located in the South East of Niger. It is an agropastoral areas, where the practice and success of rural activities is based on physical conditions, the repartition and regularity of rainfall.

Chickpea, (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most important pulse crops of India, which belongs to family Fabaceae. It occupies very important position in semiarid farming system both for human nutrition and restoring the soil fertility. Occurrence of dry root rot caused by Rhizoctonia bataticola (Taub.) Butler is emerging as a serious biotic constraint in recent years for successful and profitable cultivation of chickpea the efficacy of various fungicides viz.

In many parts of the world food security is being affected due to declining quality and/or quantity of the soil resource base and climate change. In this context, farming with zeolites has drawn attention. Zeolites are natural aluminosilicates present in rocks in different part of the world. Use of zeolite has gained a momentum in the recent past owing to multitude of benefits accrued from them. Clinoptilolite Zeolites are useful in agriculture because of their large porosity, cation exchange capacity and selectivity for ammonium and potassium cations.

In recent years due to drought yield of crop is adversely affected. In this context to increase the crop yield by utilising drought prone region, influences of moisture stress tolerant rhizobacteria on growth parameter of sorghum plant were examined under moisture stress conditions. Four autochthonous moisture stress tolerant bacterial strain isolated from semiarid region identified as Serratia marcescens strain L1SC8, Pseudomonas putida strain L3SC1, Enterobacter cloacae strain L1CcC1 and Serratia marcescens strain L2FmA4.

Peganum harmala L. (Zygophyllaceae), native to arid and semiarid rangeland, has been widely studied biochemically, pharmaceutically, and medicinally, but is largely unknown ecologically. In the lower Chelif, Algeria, this plant is largely present and shows a clear clumped pattern, which indicates the strong effects of environmental conditions

In Iran, an arid and semiarid country, the distribution of precipitation is irregular and uneven, making the replenishment of reservoirs difficult during periods of scant rainfall. In this paper, a method has been devised to make available the maximum amount of water for irrigation, drinking, and the flow regime of Sofi Creek.
