Sero-prevalence of dengue

The aim is to diagnose Dengue infection, its local epidemiology, seroprevalance and determination in Thanjavur district by viral isolation using cell line, serological tests, and molecular methods and genome sequencing.

This study was conducted among the PUO cases admitted in the Medical and Paediatric wards at Govt. Thiruvannamalai medical college -To Study the Seroprevalance of Dengue infection in these cases by subjecting the serum samples with IgM capture ELISA technique, to categorize the Dengue cases as Dengue Fever, Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever and Dengue Shock Syndrome (according to WHO guidelines) and compare between 2consecutive years.

Dengue is the most critical arthropod borne viral infection and a major public health concern globally in recent years infecting about 50 million people each year. Dengue infected patients present with symptoms varying from mild fever to life threatening shock. Associated thrombo cytopaenia is a hall mark of a life threatening dengue infection. A platelet count of less than 100,000/µl is a diagnostic criteria for dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) as per World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, 2015.

Dengue or break bone fever is a deadly disease caused by the Flavivirus. There are approximately 390 million dengue infections every year in the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. It is caused by the day biting Aedes mosquitoes which has expanded its geographical boundaries recently. Early diagnosis of Dengue is essential to prevent the complications. The study was done in a tertiary care hospital to have an insight about the seroprevalence during the dry months from March to August.

Dengue is a vector borne arboviral disease caused by dengue virus, and it is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is endemic in almost all parts of India for the past two decades. Recently there was dengue outbreak in the year 2017 where southern parts of India were most affected. This study is carried out in a tertiary care child and maternity hospital, Puducherry, to study the seroprevalence rate of dengue among antenatal and peadiatric age group during the time period January 2017 to December 2017. NS1Ag ELISA and IgM Microlisa tests were done to diagnose dengue infection.
