Ebook "Introduction to plant pathology" introduces the eleven types of organism that cause plant disease, ranging from higher plants to viroids and describes examples of cash and staple crop diseases that have caused human catastrophes. Early chapters cover serological and molecular techniques for the diagnosis of plant pathogens, epidemiology, methods for estimating disease severity and its effect on crop yields and techniques for limiting inoculum.

Syphilis is a systemic disease caused by the transmission through sexual contact of Treponema pallidum. It has a high incidence in men who have sex with other men, and is associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The diagnosis depends on serological tests or confirmation of the spirochete in histological samples.

Drug-induced lupus erythematosus is a rare condition associated with the exposure to certain drugs capable of triggering an autoimmune disease similar to systemic lupus erythematosus. Although there are no available diagnostic criteria, clinical and serological findings and its temporal association with the initiation of the suspected drug are important to establish the diagnosis.

Hydatid disease is endemic in Mediterranean countries and most commonly occurs in the liver followed by the lung. A primary localization in the retroperitoneum is extremely rare. Primary retroperitoneal hydatid cyst is extremely rare and has uncommon presentation, but we should learn the keys to its diagnosis.

Brucellosis is an important zoonotic disease prevalent worldwide. It is caused by different species of Brucella in different animal species and humans. Early and accurate diagnosis of the disease is crucial for its control. Here we discuss the current trends in clinical, serological and molecular diagnosis of the disease in the common domestic animals.

Brucellosis is known as undulant fever or Malta fever, caused by the genus Brucella. It is the most common human zoonosis. The disease is worldwide distributed and causes significant economic losses. In animals, it causes abortion, reduction in milk production, and infertility. While brucellosisin humans is a debilitating disease with various clinical manifestations that may lead to death in some cases.

Performance of SD bioline Syphilis 3.0 for the diagnosis of syphilis a UPFR in immunology of CHU-JRA
Serology is considered the pillar of the syphilis diagnosis. The limitations of traditional serological methods, the advent and availability of new immunochromatographic tests have led to the widespread application of rapid procedures as syphilis screening tools. However, these tests are not widely evaluated. This study was designed to evaluate the performance of a rapid diagnostic test for syphilis known as SD BIOLINE Syphilis 3.0.

This study attempted to determine the prevalence of HBV infection and comparative assessment between serological and molecular diagnoses among 75 samples divided into three groups as treated, untreated and control groups from different cities in Wasit Province, Iraq, during the period from March 2016 to May 2016. The samples were analyzed by ELISA and Real Time – PCR techniques for detecting the prevalence of HBV in patients.

Dengue Fever is a mosquito-borne illness commonly present throughout the tropics. Dengue virus belongs to flaviviridae family and circulates with 4 different serotypes circulating in environment. In India four different serotypes of the virus are seen throughout country. The disease has a wide spectrum from an asymptomatic stage to DHF and DSS. Annually 100 million cases of dengue and a half million cases of DHF occurs worldwide with a case fatality of 0.5% to 3.5%. The combined laboratory interventions with the clinical spectrum can reduce the mortality in disease.

Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is a Gram positive, acid-fast bacterium which causes Johne’s disease or Paratuberculosis in domestic livestock species. For screening of cows for MAP infection a total of 103 milk samples from individual cows were collected from organized (57) and unorganized (46) farms. Presence of anti-MAP antibodies in milk were screened by indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (iELISA) test, 72 (69.90%) cow milk samples were found positives (66.07% from organized farms and 74.46% from unorganized farms). Positivity percentages were 62.

Enteric fever still remains as an important cause for morbidity and mortality throughout the world and the causative organism for Typhoid and paratyphoid fever are Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi A, B and C respectively. Objective of the study is to compare and evaluate the performance of Qualitative and semiquantitative Slide Widal test and Quantitative Tube Widal test for diagnosis of enteric fever. A cross sectional study was undertaken and about 400paired serum samples were obtained from the patients and were subjected to both slide and tube widal tests.

Brucellosis is a major bacterial zoonosis of global importance. Bovine brucellosis is endemic in all states of India. However, the exact extent of the disease occurrence in the unorganized herds is not known. The present study was undertaken for serological diagnosis of brucellosis in cattle from a local gaushala (cow shelter) employing common agglutination tests RBPT, STAT and MAT and ELISA. Out of 56 samples from cattle from the Gaushala, 37.5% samples by RBPT, 64.28% each by STAT and MAT and 49.23% samples by ELISA, respectively were found to be positive for anti-Brucella antibodies.

Comparative study of serological test RPR & TPHA for diagnosis of syphilis at tertiary care hospital
Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in syphilis show wide variation. The use of only one type of serological test is insufficient for diagnosis. To determine diagnostic performance of TPHA (Treponema pallidum Hemagglutination Assay) and RPR (Rapid plasma regain) test for syphilis. A study of syphilis was done over a period of April 2012 to March 2013 at Tertiary Care Hospital, Ahmedabad. A total of 1325 serum samples from clinically suspected cases of syphilis were sent to the microbiology laboratory.
