To facilitate the characterization of regulatory networks involved in the adaptation of this pathogen to its different environments and their evolution, we have determined the primary transcriptome of a serotype M1 S. pyogenes strain at single-nucleotide resolution and compared it with that of Streptococcus agalactiae, also from the pyogenic group of streptococci.

Shigella is a Gram-negative facultative intracellular bacterium that causes bacillary dysentery in humans. Shigella invades cells of the colonic mucosa owing to its virulence plasmid-encoded Type 3 Secretion System (T3SS), and multiplies in the target cell cytosol.

The main objective of this study, which is part of the Pneumococcal African Genome project (PAGe), was to determine the phylogenetic relationships of serotype 1 isolates recovered from children patients in Casablanca (Morocco), compared to these from other African countries; and to investigate the contribution of accessory genes and recombination events to the genetic diversity of this serotype.

Salmonella is an enterobacterium present in the environment as well as in a large number of animals which, in most cases, serve as host asymptomatically. This bacterium is the leading cause of collective food poisoning in the world. In view of the expansion of salmonellosis in the world and the emergence of multi-resistant strains of Salmonella, this is a threat to human safety. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence rate of Salmonella and their antibiotic resistance profile, antibiotics often used in cattle breeding in the district of Abidjan.

Drug resistance in bacterial pathogen is an evolving problem requiring monitoring. The study aims at determining the prevalence of bacterial pathogens associated with urinary tract infections in rural women. Urine samples (320) were collected from women in Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State and bacteria isolated from the samples. Isolates were identified and serotyping carried out. Antibiogram profile of the isolates was subsequently carried out.

The present study was taken up with a view to undertake plaque purification of BTV-4 isolate available in the department, to confirm its purity. BTV-4 isolate was adapted to Vero cell line and had a titer of 106.46/ml after 8 passages in the process of plaque purification which was determined as 104.833/ml prior to adaption. Plaque purification was carried for three times using agarose overlaying method in 6 well plate. Each time plaques were observed from 4th day of infection of approximately not more than 1mm diameter.

Recent studies have revealed that over-expression of FST by adeno-associated viruses increases muscle growth in mice, humans and nonhuman primates. In the present study, to determine the effect of FST on ovine primary myoblast (OPM) proliferation, FST was over-expressed using an adeno-associated virus serotype 2 (AAV 2) vector.

Poultry industry in India is facing major economic setback due to persistent disease problems like colibacillosis. The incidence and severity extra intestinal infection like complicated chronic respiratory disease have increased rapidly. In this context the role of E.coli in causing extra intestinal infection needs to be explored. The study of virulence determinants associated with these bacteria help us in understanding the pathogenic mechanism of disease.

Dengue fever is an acute febrile infectious disease, caused by any of four serotypes. Severe dengue infections may give rise to many complications such as liver failure, disseminated intravascular coagulation, encephalopathy, myocarditis, acute renal failure and haemolytic uraemic syndrome. ST segment and T wave changes in the electrocardiogram together with low ejection fraction and global hypokinesia on radionuclide ventriculography have been found. Hence, this study was intended to assess the cardiac manifestations in dengue fever patients.

As infection with Pasteurella multocida is common in cattle and buffalo, a monoclonal antibody based sandwich ELISA kit was developed for its rapid and easy detection. The test was optimized and standardized so that maximum concordance could be maintained with the standard procedures of hemorrhagic septicemia diagnosis recommended by the WHO expert committee. HS-1, a Pasteurella multocida type B specific monoclonal antibody developed in mice was used as tracing antibody to capture P. multocida serotype B:2 in a sandwich ELISA.

Dengue is a mosquito borne viral disease (Priyadarshini et al., 2016). It belongs to the family of Flavivirus. It is transmitted mainly by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito. Outbreaks are due to the four serotypes DEN1, DEN2, DEN3, DEN4. Increasing incidence and repeated outbreaks turns this disease as a serious public health problem (Barrera et al., 2002). Urbanization, improper water management and the vector population are the main causes for the spread of the disease. Dengue is a leading causes of hospitalization and death among children (Mistry et al., 2013).

Dengue is the most important and rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease in the world. It is caused by any of the 4 serologically related virus serotypes designated as: DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4, each causing its characteristic symptoms which range from acute febrile illness to severe manifestations (DHF and DHS). The present study focuses on the circulating serotypes of Dengue in this region. A total of 246 clinically suspected patients of Dengue fulfilling the WHO case definition were undertaken in the study.

This method is real-time PCR, which can be a qualitative or quantitative assay since amplification and detection of amplified products occur simultaneously. Then, typing is performed. Typing is primarily used for epidemiologic investigations, for studies on pathogenesis such as multiple serotype infections, for unusual or especially severe infections, or for treatment approaches such as high titer γ-globulin. The nucleotide sequences from these fragments were determined by a DNA auto sequencer with fluorescent dideoxy chain terminators.
