Plasmacytomas are rare extramedullary plasma cell neoplasms that present in bone and/or soft tissue. Diagnosis can require a variety of laboratory approaches such as serum protein electrophoresis, bone marrow biopsy, Bence Jones protein assays, and imaging.

Toxocara canis is a dog helminth which causes visceral larva migrans (VLM) in humans. The identification of specific antigens of T. canis is important in order to develop better diagnostic techniques. The excretory-secretory larval antigens of T. canis (ESLA) were prepared by in vitro culturing of T. canis larvae in RPMI 1640 medium. These antigens were separated using sodium dodecyl sulphate-poly acrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDSPAGE) which revealed 9 protein bands at a molecular weight of 17, 18, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 and 120 kDa.

In this study, 18 live specimens collected from six localities in the distribution areas of Mesocricetus brandti and Mesocricetus auratus were examined using SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). The findings showed that there is no difference in globulin and albumin proteins of M. brandti and M. auratus, and supported the claim that M. auratus is very closely related to M. brandti.

Globulin and albumin proteins of Apodemus populations in the Black Sea region were examined using SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulphate - polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). There were 7-11 bands in the globulin region and 1-3 bands in the prealbumin zone. It was determined that there were variations in both the globulin region and the prealbumin zone in populations of this genus.

Esterase enzymes from 30 specimens of Arvicola terrestris in 4 localities in Kirflehir province were examined using starch gel electrophoresis and blood serum proteins from 27 specimens using SDS-PAGE. It was determined that the esterase enzyme had 2 alleles (A and B), which were coded by 1 locus. A and B allele frequencies were 0.362 and 0.638, respectively.

Since there are many different immunoglobulins in the serum, their differing mobilities in an electric field produce a broad peak. In conditions associated with increases in polyclonal immunoglobulin, the broad peak is more prominent (middle panel).
