Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is aprimitive oilseed crops cultivated in semi-arid Tropics and sub tropics regions in India. Macrophomina phaseolina a soil borne fungus cause root and stem rot in sesame crop and pathogen attacks plant at all growth stages. Due to soil borne nature practically no effective field control and no source of resistant is available. A field experiment was conducted with twenty cultivars of sesame during kharif sesame 2017.

Field experiments were conducted during 2010-12 at Regional Research Station, Virudhachalam to find out the residual effect of fly ash, farm yard manure and fertilizers applied to groundnut on growth parameters, nutrient uptake, yield of sesame and post-harvest soil available nutrients. The Neyveli Lignite Corporation fly ash contained higher amount of Ca, Mg, S and Si, moderate amount of P, K and B. Application of fly ash @ 40 t/ha significantly increased growth parameters, yield attributes, seed yield and harvest index of sesame.

High temperature and high relative humidity cause severe and rapid deterioration of viability and vigour of groundnut seeds. The environmental conditions that exist during the growth period and harvesting time affects the seed quality and storability. Thus, the environment / provenance plays a major role in determining the seed storability and quality.

A field experiment was conducted at Agronomy farm, S.K.N. College of Agriculture, Jobner (Rajasthan) during kharif 2014 on loamy sand soil. The experiment consisted of 16 treatment combinations of four levels each of potassium (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg ha-1 ) and sulphur (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1 ). The results showed that progressive increase in level of potassium up to 50 kg K2O ha-1 and sulphur 40 kg S ha-1 significantly increased the quality of sesame.

An intensive survey was conducted at flowering to ripening of capsule to record the incidence of charcoal rot in ten agroclimatic zones of Odisha during rabi 2014-15. Almost all the fields were infected by more than one disease. The major diseases of sesame recorded were Macrophomina stem and root rot, Cercospora leaf spot, Alternaria blight, powdery mildew, phytopthora blight and phyllody to some extent. Incidence of foliar diseases such as Alternaria blight, Powdery mildew, Cercospora leaf spot ranged from grade 2-4, 0-3 and 1-2 respectively with maximum incidence at Balianta.

Phyllody is a serious disease of sesame caused by phytoplasma. Different types of disease symptoms are reported to be associated with sesame phyllody. The major symptoms are phyllody, Flower virescence, witches broom, shoot tip fasciation, flattening of the shoot apex and cracking of seed capsules. In addition to this, infected plants exhibit reduction of internode distance and of leaf size. Investigations were carried out on the symptomatology of phytoplasma associated with phyllody disease.
