The preliminary screening of microplastics (MPs) in sewage sludge from centralized industrial wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Da Nang city of Viet Nam was investigated in this study. The MPs samples were collected in the sewage sludge from two industrial wastewater treatment plants namely Hoa Cam (HC) and Hoa Khanh (HK).

Many pharmacologically active compounds are chiral species, and their therapeutic or toxicological effects might differ between isomers. Herein, we develop a fast and sensitive chiral analysis methodology for the determination of eight pharmaceuticals, considered as emerging environmental pollutants and belonging to two different chemical classes, in wastewater and sludge samples.

In this study, laboratory wastewater containing organic matters, heavy metals and aromatic compounds, was treated by vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides) as a phytoremediation. Sewage effluent as a source of nutrient supply for plant growth was first fed to two wetland systems: Mini horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) and floating raft (FR) wetlands.

The results showed that SS demonstrated substantially higher impact in total (5.47 Pt) and across each of the endpoint categories, most notably human health (3.12 Pt). Further investigations demonstrated that this was largely fed by the respiratory inorganics midpoint category that accounted for 50 % of the total impact (2.75 Pt).

Investigation of the possibility of treating wastewater containing Cu2+ heavy metal with activated carbon material prepared from macadamia husk with activating K2CO3 in Optimal conditions such as temperature 6500C and burning time is 60 minutes. Survey results show that coal with the ability to handle heavy metals is best at 84.02% in optimal conditions such as pH=5 and time. Baking is 30 minutes. The results show similarities with other research results and are applicable to wastewater treatment Cu2+.

A field experiment was conducted to study the response of green chilli to engineered constructed wetland treated wastewater in comparison to other sources of water at University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka, India during kharif 2015. Effect of six different sources of water (domestic wastewater, engineered constructed wetland- (ECWL) treated wastewater, borewell water, domestic wastewater alternated with fresh water, fresh water alternated with ECWL treated wastewater; domestic wastewater alternated with ECWL treated wastewater) was evaluated in green chilli.

Every day, up to 750,000 cubic meters of wastewater in Ha Noi metropolitan areas is discharged directly into rivers and lakes, of which only 10 % is treated to the Vietnamese standards. According to the water drainage development master plan for the capital city of Ha Noi until 2030, the government aims at dealing with flood control and improving environmental sanitation for local residents.

Sewage sludge (SS), a byproduct of treated wastewater by sewage treatment plants (STPs) are rich in organic C, and other macro –micro nutrients, which if properly managed can be used to improve organic fertility in intensively cropped degraded soil. A field experiment was conducted to examine the role of sewage sludge from different sewage treatment plants with various doses of phosphorus on physicochemical and macronutrient in soil depth under (Vignaradiata L.).

Effect of wastewaters on concentration of micronutrients in dominant soils of north Karnataka, India
Water scarcity and increase wastewater generation are twin problem associated which needs to be addressed to derive benefit for agricultural production. In this context laboratory study was conducted to characterize the wastewater from four different sources (Ugar sugar-Ugar khurd, West coast paper mill-Dandeli, Nectar beverages-Dharwad, Domestic sewage water-UAS campus Dharwad) in north Karnataka and were compared with freshwater.

The paper indicates that Pistia stratiotes were used for wastewater treatment about twenty days with 0 individual/tank, five individuals/tank, seven individuals/tank, nine individuals/tank. Every experiment was conducted three times in the same way with 140 L for each tank. The experimental result shows that the amount of Pistia stratiotes increases and reach the highest quality in Treatment 3 on the 15th day.

Reliable estimation of sewage flow rates is essential for the proper design of sewers, pumping stations, and treatment plants. The design of the various components of the sewerage system should be based on the most critical flow rates with a focuson extremely low and peak flow rates that would be sustained for a duration related to the acceptable limits of behavior of the components under consideration. The extreme flow conditions and to what extent they differ from the average values are closely related to the size of the community or network, and the socioeconomic conditions.

This study aims to examine the characteristics and to assess the hazardous level as well as the reusability of sewage sludge and river sediment from To Lich River (TLR) basin, which is the largest wastewater catchment in Hanoi. Sludge samples were collected from six manholes along Tran Binh Trong (TBT) and Thai Ha (TH) sewers in rainy and dry seasons.

Publication of this book is a milestone for the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council. It demonstrates the Council's unique capacity to bring together water and sanitation professionals from industrialised and developing countries to formulate practical guidance on a key issue of the day. Industrialised countries have extensive experience of the problems caused by water pollution and the strategies and technologies available to control it.

There are, actually, no formal Swedish regulations for organic contaminants in sludge. There is an informal agreement between the Swedish EPA, the Farmers Union and the Water and Wastewater Association which includes the recommendations in table 3.1-1. These agreements are based more on practical experience than on scientific data. Sweden also used to have a recommended limit value for toluene, but this has been omitted (WALLGREN 2001).

Sewage sludge as an uncalled for product of wastewater treatment poses the challenge to society of disposing of it, but at the same time gives us the opportunity of beneficial use by closing the cycle of nutrients: sludge derived from agricultural activity must return to soil if a sustainable and ecologically sound management of these materials is desirable (SEQUI et al. 2000). At present the major ways of disposing of sewage sludges are deposition, landfill and incineration, only part of the sludges are used in agriculture. ...

The steady increase in industrialization, urbanization and enormous population growth are leading to production of huge quantities of wastewaters that may frequently cause environmental hazards. Raw or treated waste water is very oft en discharged to freshwaters and results in changing ecological performance and biological diversity of these systems. About 70% of water supplied ends up as wastewater and several natural water reservoirs are being contaminated by untreated sewage/industrial effl uents. This makes waste water treatment and waste water reduction very important issues....
