  • Thirty five accessions of brinjal were assessed for variability for nineteen characters. Highly significant differences were observed among the accessions. High phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation was observed for number of fruits per cluster, number of fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit width, average fruit weight, fruit yield per plant, ascorbic acid content, total phenol content, shoot and fruit borer infestation indicating the existence of wider genetic variability for these traits in the germplasm.

  • The present investigation was carried out at Horticulture Research Station, Dr. Y. S. R Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari district during kharif season, 2018.Based on D2 values, the twenty-nine hybrids of okra grouped into six clusters. Among the sixclusters, cluster III comprised the maximum number of hybrids (6) followed by cluster II (5), cluster V (5), cluster VI (5), cluster I (4) and cluster IV (4). The maximum inter cluster distance was observed between clusters I and VI (D2 =65.06) followed by clusters II and VI (D2 =62.51).

  • Papaya is one of the few important fruits which flowers and yield throughout the year. Though a polygamous species with three basic types viz., staminate, pistillate and bisexual, its cultivation with seed propagation is hindered by problems due to vide variability in sex expression and fruit characters. In such point of view, propagation through asexual method could be a better alternative. The micropropagation will substitute method of propagation by cutting or grafting would be of great boon to papaya industry. The procedure for in vitro propagation of papaya (Carica papaya) cv.

  • In brinjal, lower marketable yield could be attributed to susceptibility of genotypes to shoot and fruit borer. The present investigation in brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) was undertaken during kharif season of 2016 for high marketable yield and fruit borer resistance. Hundred brinjal genotypes along with two checks were evaluated in Augmented design in University of Horticultural and Agricultural Sciences, Shivamogga. Analysis of variance revealed high significant differences among genotypes for fifteen out of nineteen characters studied.
