This work investigated the effect of adding low concentrations of nano-SiO2 (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%) in the properties of films based on sodium alginate, to identify lower thresholds in the proportion of the reinforcing agent. It was found that, even in the smallest proportion, thermal stability of the nanocomposites improved significantly (with degradation onset increased by almost 15% compared with the control film).

Selection of an appropriate statistical significance threshold in genome-wide association studies is critical to differentiate true positives from false positives and false negatives. Different multiple testing comparison methods have been developed to determine the significance threshold; however, these methods may be overly conservative and may lead to an increase in false negatives.

Identifying mRNA targets of miRNAs is critical for studying gene expression regulation at the wholegenome level. Multiple computational tools have been developed to predict miRNA:mRNA interactions. Nonetheless, many of these tools are developed in various small datasets, which each represent a limited sample space.

The paper proposed a novel threshold based algorithm of oil spill detection in the Synthetic Aperture Radar images. This threshold is a global one determined according to statistical analysis of pixel intensities of the images and their sizes. The simulation results of the proposed method on Python software were compared with other methods, and proved that the proposed method significantly improved accuracy.

The goal of many human disease-oriented studies is to detect molecular mechanisms different between healthy controls and patients. Yet, commonly used gene expression measurements from blood samples suffer from variability of cell composition.

Facing different technological innovation mode, there is a significant difference in the industrial structure effect of bank credit, this would have important research significance for technological innovation mode selection in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region. Based on the data of 43 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region for the period of 2009-2016, this paper builds a panel threshold model to analysis the industrial structure effect of bank credit.

Field experiment was conducted in 50 Chinese millet genetic resources to assess the genetic divergence for 12 metric traits through Principal Component Analysis. The ANOVA revealed existence of highly significant variation for all the traits examined. About 69.15 per cent of total variation accrued through Principal component analysis exhibited four Principal components (PC1-29.65%, PC2-16.94%, PC3-12.27% and PC4- 10.27%) retained based on the Scree plot and threshold Eigen value greater than one (>1). The PC1 with prime economical traits viz.

The combustion of biomass and coal significantly contributes to the total health burden due to the emission of gaseous pollutants and particulate matter. To determine the personal exposure related to beehive coal stove cooking in Hanoi, an assessment study on 120 females in three wards (Tran Hung Dao, Phuc Tan, and Chuong Duong) of Ha Noi city, Viet Nam was conducted. Personal and ambient concentrations of PM2.5 and CO (upwind, nearsource, far-source) were simultaneously measured twice a day at each household by PATS++ equipment developed by Berkeley Air Monitoring group.

Intermittent drought stress in rainfed ecosystem significantly limits the production of Ranjit, the most predominant high yielding rice variety of North East India. In order to understand the genetic basis of drought tolerance a mapping population comprising 85 F4 individuals between ‘Ranjit’ and a drought tolerant cultivar, ARC10372 was developed and genotyped with 80 microsatellite markers. 7 possible linkage groups were analysed by changing the LOD values and the recombination frequencies in the Join map 4.0 software package.

This study presents a land use pattern classification of satellite imagery. The Machine learning algorithms are overseen to pattern classifications. The supervised classifier is identifying the classes using trained set. Compiled classification has to be improvised using efficient algorithms with appropriate threshold values. The statistical significance of satellite image classifies into essential classes is of greater importance in remote sensing pattern classification methods.

Genetic gain in Testcrosses derived from heat tolerant multi-parental synthetic populations of maize
Heat stress due to prolonged high ambient temperature during critical growth stages is a serious threat to crop production worldwide. Though being a C4 crop, maize has relatively wider adaptation, however, weather extremes such as heat stress is challenging its threshold limits. There is an absolute requirement of heat tolerant cultivars in the present condition as climate change has a become reality.

Hansen’s (1999) panel threshold regression model is applied in this study to investigate the correlation between bank size and bank earnings volatility in 14 Chinese banks. These data were adopted after the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy was announced in 2009Q4. The data used in this study cover the period from 2009Q1 to 2013Q1. The dependent variable is bank earnings volatility, whereas bank size is the independent and threshold variable. Empirical results show the significance of a single threshold on bank size and return on asset (ROA) earnings volatility.

Egypt has the highest prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) worldwide. Currently, combined pegylated interferon and ribavirin therapy are the standard treatment. The biological activity of interferon (IFN) is mediated by the induction of intracellular antiviral proteins, such as 20 –50 oligoadenylate synthetase, and dsRNA-activated protein kinase. IFN-inducible doublestranded RNA-activated protein kinase (PKR) is thought to play a key antiviral role against HCV. Some studies observed that PKR expression was higher in sustained viral responders compared with the non-responders.

Large-scale comparative studies of DNA fingerprints prefer automated chip capillary electrophoresis over conventional gel planar electrophoresis due to the higher precision of the digitalization process. However, the determination of band sizes is still limited by the device resolution and sizing accuracy. Band matching, therefore, remains the key step in DNA fingerprint analysis.

Cereal cyst nematodes (CCNs) are plant parasites that significantly limit global cereal production. The most frequently reported pathogenic species are Heterodera avenae, H. filipjevi, and H. latipons. One of the most cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and easily adopted control measures is the use of genetic host resistance, which maintains nematode populations below the economic damage threshold level.

In the second method, instead of learning on each classifier separately as in the former, we combine these classifiers by a voting ensemble. The experimental results on 20 benchmark imbalanced datasets collected from the UCI repository show that our methods significantly outperform the baseline NB. These methods also perform as good as the state-of-the-art sampling methods and significantly better in certain cases.

First we must determine what is important. Do we need all log data from every critical system in order to perform security, response, and audit? Will we need all that data at lightning speed? (Most likely, we will not.) How much data can the network and collection tool actually handle under load? What is the threshold before networks bottleneck and/or the SIEM is rendered unusable, not unlike a denial of service (DOS)? These are variables that every organization must consider as they hold SIEM to standards that best suit their operational goals....

Definitions and brands differ significantly from state to state. A salvage brand is required in Georgia, for example, if restoration would require replacement of two or more component parts. In Kentucky, a salvage brand is required if the cost to repair exceeds 75 percent of the vehicle’s value. Vermont requires a salvage brand on any vehicle that an insurer declares a total loss. Varying thresholds exist for other brands such as “junk” or “flood.” In Virginia, a vehicle receives a flood brand if there is more than $1,000 in water damage, while in Wyoming...

The similarity in sign and significance of the estimated coefficients for banks’ leverage to the standard corporate finance regression suggests that a pure regulatory view does not apply to banks’ capital structure. But can the results be explained by banks holding buffers of discretionary capital in order to avoid violating regulatory thresholds? Recall from Table IV that banks with higher market-to-book ratios, higher profits and that pay dividends should hold less discretionary capital since they can be expected to face lower costs of issuing equity.
