  • Field experiments on the efficacy of novel insecticide molecules and neem products to grape thrips, Scirtohrips dorsalis Hood were conducted in Bijapur and Bagalkot district for two seasons during 2013-14. Among twelve treatments, fipronil 5% SC @ 1.0 ml/l, imidacloprid 17.8% SL @ 0.3 ml/l were significantly superior to other treatments with more than 87 per cent reduction of thrips damage over untreated control.

  • Five antibiotics viz. Streptomycin sulphate, Streptocyclin, Chloramphenicol, Ampicillin and Rifamycin and One fungicide viz. Copper-Oxychloride were tested against Xanthomonas axonopodis pv Citri. in vitro. The antibiotic sensitivity against sixteen isolates was studied by paper disk method.   • A field trial was conducted to investigate the effect of spatial distribution and different levels of nitrogen on growth of hybrid rice variety PA 6201, comprising of 16 different treatments using randomized complete block design with three replications at agronomy research farm of Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Faizabad (U.P.), India during the season of Kharif in the year 2012. It was found that the spacing of 20×15 cm was found significantly superior over other geometric configurations and at par with closer spacing 20×10 cm for the entire growth characteristics.

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate different bio-agents, biorationals and botanicals to control powdery mildew of pea. During evaluation, all the seven treatments viz. hexaconazole, NSKE, Lantana camara leaf extract, B. subtilis, T. harzianum, cow urine, butter milk were found to be significantly superior over control in managing the powdery mildew disease. Among all treatments, T1 (Hexaconazole 5 EC- 0.05%), T2 (NSKE 5%), T5 (T. harzianum 0.4%), T6 (cow urine 10%), T3 (Lantana camara leaves extract 10%) were significantly superior over other treatments for managing powdery mildew.

  • Clusterbean [Cyamopsis tetragonaloba (L.) Taub], an important legume crop in India. Alternaria spp. is an economically important pathogen widely distributed throughout the world and cause devastating disease on field crops. A total of eight commonly available botanicals were evaluated in the form of crude extracts against the growth of Alternaria cyamopsidis under in-vitro condition. Results of the in vitro evaluation of various botanicals against A. cyamopsidis revealed that all the test botanicals significantly inhibited mycelial growth of A. cyamopsidis, over untreated control.

  • Pythium damping-off of Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) is very common problem in fields and greenhouses, whereas the organism kills newly emerged seedlings. In present investigation repeated isolations from rotten seeds as well as toppled seedlings of Chilli cv. Pusa Jwala have yielded the cultures of P. aphanidermatum. The damping off mainly being soil borne, the primary infections are needed to be controlled with suitable fungicides.
