In this work, we perform a detailed balance analysis of the maximum conversion efficiency of solar cells made from III-nitride materials. First, we present an analysis of single junction solar cells made from InxGa1xN alloys, and next we focus on tandem cells made from III-nitride and silicon materials.

The size-dependent behavior of a silicon microbeam with an axial force in MEMS is studied using a nonlinear finite element procedure. Based on a refined thirdorder shear deformation theory and the modified couple stress theory (MCST), nonlinear differential equations of motion for the beam are derived from Hamilton’s principle, and they are transferred to a discretized form using a two-node beam element.

To achieve the aim, the first objective is preliminary experiments on preparation of polypropylene blends with silicone elastomer masterbatch and characterize by analysis of mass composition, mechanical properties, and dynamic mechanical properties to investigate any improvement of properties. The silicone elastomer masterbatch will then be substituted with propylene-maleic anhydride graft copolymer waxes or other compatibilizers.

This paper presents a novel design of the microactuator with a double stepped beam structure for large out-of-plane deflection output applied to microvalves. The design and analysis of the out-of-plane microactuator are implemented by the finite element method. Silicon is selected as the material of the actuator and the beam motion is generated by the Joule heating effect.

Cellulose acetate (CA) membranes were modified by nano-silicon dioxide (n-SiO2), and they were exposed to ultrasonic waves at a frequency of 35 kHz. The effect of sonication on their water sorption tendency and permeation capability was investigated. The characterization of the membranes was done by FTIR and SEM analysis, and the hydrophilic character of the membranes was deduced by swelling studies and contact angle (CAn) measurements.

The synthesis and characterization of novel tetraalkylthio (SC6H13 or SC12H25) substituted µ-oxo silicon(IV) phthalocyanines (3a and 3b) and their µ-oxo derivatives (4a and 4b) were described in this study. These silicon(IV) phthalocyanines were characterized using different spectroscopic techniques such as UV-Vis, 1H NMR, FTIR, and mass and elemental analysis, as well.

In this paper, we present simulation and evaluation of sensitivity of electrical and mechanical effects of MEMS based capacitive pressure sensor with rectangle diaphragm using COMSOL Multiphysics. This includes diaphragm deflection, sensitivity and linearity analysis, capacitance and thermal considerations. Capacitance values are plotted under uniform external pressure 10kPa. Selected materials include silicon and carbon, acknowledging that carbon has shown the best and steady result. Simulation results also show how the capacitance and diaphragm deformation varies under increasing pressure.

In this work, the anharmonic extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) oscillation of crystalline silicon (c-Si) is presented in terms of the Debye-Waller factor using the cumulant expansion approach up to the fourthorder. The first four EXAFS cumulant has been calculated based on the classical anharmonic correlated Einstein (ACE) model and suitable analysis procedure, in which thermodynamic parameters are derived from the anharmonic effective potential obtained using the first shell near-neighbor contribution approach.

Rab proteins are GTPases responsible for intracellular vesicular trafficking regulation. Rab11 proteins, members of the Rab GTPase family, are known to regulate vesicular recycling during embryonic development. In zebrafish, there are 3 rab11 paralogues, known as rab11a, rab11ba and rab11bb, sharing high identity with each other.

In present work hybrid composite laminated plate is prepared by mixing Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Graphene powder in glass fiber reinforced composite plates. The hand lay-up process has been adopted for preparing the composite plates. The antisymmetric cross ply (00 /900 /00 /900 ) composite laminated plates are considered for analysis. The hardness and Impact test on hybrid composite laminated plate is to be carried out on Brinell’s Hardness test and Charpy V - Notch Test.

This paper investigates the effect of defects on the electrical properties of monocrystalline silicon solar cells (mono-Si/m-Si). It characterises work function in terms of surface potential (SP) using scanning probe microscopy (SPM), and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) in force modulation mode, as opposed to the usual amplitude modulation mode.

he amorphous core dry-type cast-resin transformer is a type of energy- saving transformer, which the no-load losses in the amorphous metal is generally lower from 60% to 70 % than regular electrical steel (silicon steel). In this paper, the iron core and winding thermal of the dry-type transformer are simulated/analysed via a finite element method. The analysis of temperature distribution characteristics of iron core and winding in transformers is a quite important problem for researchers to show the hot-spot and the temperature rise highest point.

In this study, the alkaline solutions (NaOH) with concentrations from 1M to 18M, red mud (RM) and silica fume (SF) were used as reactors in geopolymer reactions. RM contains 7.40% SiO2 and 13.65% Al2 O3 and SF has 94.50% SiO2 , but only the active oxides can participate in the geopolymer reactions. The activity of the oxides was investigated by determining the compressive strength of the samples under different curing conditions.

In this study, an experimental assessment of thermal shock performance of a monolithic alpha phase SiC tube was conducted by quenching the material from high temperature (up to 1200ºC) into room temperature water. Post-quenching assessment was carried out by a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) image analysis to characterize fractures in the material. This paper assesses the effects of pre-existing pores on SiC cladding brittle fracture and crack development/propagation during the reflood phase.

This paper presents a Monte-Carlo code to simulate the time sequences of the β-decay following implantation of a continuous radioactive ion beam into a segmented silicon detector. We extended our simulation to the β-delayed neutron process. An analysis procedure, which has been developed to obtain simultaneously the β-decay half-life and the β-delayed multi-neutron emission probability, was verified by the simulation data.

In this paper, we design and simulate a micro-suspension based scanning probe for nanolithography using electrostatic actuation. The probe consists of a square plate with a pyramid tip at the center that is suspended by four beams. The entire probe is assumed to be made of single silicon and operated in air medium. Operation characteristics are analyzed by finite element method.
