The article numerically simulates the vibration reduction of a spur gear transmission by using damping particles placed in technological holes designed on the gear itself. The vibration of the gear transmission is reduced based on friction and inelastic collision which eliminates the vibrational energy by the loss during the motion of the damping particles within the technological holes.

Small polarons are quasi-particles in materials formed by a charge carrier and its self-induced distortion. In cathode materials containing transition metal elements, small polarons play an important role in the diffusion of charge carriers. In order to grasp the fundamentals of small polarons inside cathodes, we highlight the recent progress from both experiments and simulations focusing on the formation of small polarons and their migration.

We explored a new helical spring magnet (HSM) concept using micromagnetic simulation along with analytical modeling. The present HSMs can be made of a single magnetic material or micro/nano-scale magnetic particles in a polymer matrix, which provides for active control over the motion of the HSMs by additional forces generated by the magnetic interactions inside the HSMs.

In this article, we present a simulation study to assess the effect of particle size on the magnetic properties of magnetic fluids which contain the magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles ensemble with their physical size variation between 2 nm and 20 nm (Critical size range for biomedical applications). These results show that the magnetic properties of microfluidics strongly depend on the size of the component nanoparticles.

This thesis investigates the SPH capability available in the commercial Finite Element (FE) code LS-DYNA®, for water impact problems. Experiments have been conducted on rigid wedges impacting water, which were then simulated with the SPH method. Although certain limitations were experienced with the experimental results, a positive correlation was observed with the numerical technique, thus establishing SPH as a promising method for crashworthiness design.

Elucidation of protein transport mechanism in ion exchanges is essential to model separation performance. In this work we simulate intraparticle adsorption profiles during batch adsorption assuming typical process conditions for pore, solid and parallel diffusion. Artificial confocal laser scanning microscopy images are created to identify apparent differences between the different transport mechanisms.
