Ebook "Far-field optical nanoscopy (Springer series on Fluorescence: Methods and applications, Volume 14)" discusses the initial and more recent concepts that can provide far-field optical resolution down to the molecular scale. It is shown that all concepts reported to date exploit a transition between a bright and a dark state to switch fluorescence such that adjacent objects or molecules emit sequentially in time. Some of these concepts can be extended to signal-giving mechanisms other than fluorescence.

The reaction mechanism between propadienylidene and methyleneimine was systematically investigated employing the second-order Møller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) method with the 6 – 31 + G* basis set. Geometry optimization, vibrational analysis, and energy property of the involved stationary points on the potential energy surface were calculated. The energies of the different species were corrected by single point energy calculations at the CCSD (T) // MP2 / 6 – 31 + G* level.

In spoken dialogue systems, Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDPs) provide a formal framework for making dialogue management decisions under uncertainty, but efficiency and interpretability considerations mean that most current statistical dialogue managers are only MDPs. These MDP systems encode uncertainty explicitly in a single state representation. We formalise such MDP states in terms of distributions over POMDP states, and propose a new dialogue system architecture (Mixture Model POMDPs) which uses mixtures of these distributions to efficiently represent uncertainty.

An important relation in information extraction is the part-whole relation. Ontological studies mention several types of this relation. In this paper, we show that the traditional practice of initializing minimally-supervised algorithms with a single set that mixes seeds of different types fails to capture the wide variety of part-whole patterns and tuples. The results obtained with mixed seeds ultimately converge to one of the part-whole relation types.

Single-dose regimens of the third-generation cephalosporins ceftriaxone (given IM) and cefixime (given orally) are the mainstays of therapy for uncomplicated gonococcal infection of the urethra, cervix, rectum, or pharynx. Quinolone-containing regimens are no longer recommended in the United States as first-line treatment because of widespread resistance to these agents. Because co-infection with C. trachomatis occurs frequently, initial treatment regimens must also incorporate an agent (e.g., azithromycin or doxycycline) that is effective against chlamydial infection.
