This research was carried out to evaluate the effect of organic loading rate to the performance of anaerobic co-digestion digester treating organic fraction of food waste (FW) and sludge waste (SW) from wastewater treatment plant. The experiment was conducted in two runs: Run S50, substrate contained 50 % of FW and 50 % of SW in term of volatile solid (VS) concentration; Run S100 (control run) contained 100 % SW in the influent substrate.

The alternative fuels that are derived from non-fossil source are very promising fuels for the future. Catalytic cracking of vegetable oil sludge is an advanced method for obtaining of bio- fuels. The huge waste in the vegetable oil manufacture could be converted to bio-fuel. Cracking of vegetable oil sludge by HY catalyst using MAT5000 instrument is a precious method for studying this catalytic cracking reaction. By catalytic cracking, the LPG gas, gasoline product, LCO and HCO products are also formed of vegetable oil sludge.

Pot and field trials were carried out using sediment dredged from the port of Bremen (Germany) and deposited in a settling basin near Bremen; the sediment is polluted with Cd and Zn. Five iron-bearing materials were added to the soil (1% pure Fe in soil dry matter) to immobilize the heavy metals: ‘Red mud from the aluminium industry, sludge from drinking-water treatment, bog iron ore, unused steel shot and steel shot waste.
