Small scale farms

In this paper, the authors considered theoretical approaches to family farming as a special form of social-and-economic organization, which is the most reliable mechanism for mass recruitment of rural population into the economy and optimization of material and information flows, cooperative ties of value creating participants in order to satisfy consumers in comparison with large agricultural holdings. The US experience indicates the possibility of harmonious combination of developed industry and commodity family farms in economic complexes.

Sustainable food value chains can offer important pathways out of poverty for the millions of small farms in developing countries. The need to concentrate state support for the development of small farms is proved in the article. The results of the cluster analysis of small farms show that it is advisable to send state support to the development of farms in which revenues are generated from the sale of crop products, as well as from other crop products - "niche" products and animal husbandry.

This study assesses the positive effects of inter-planting Coffea arabica and Machilus odoratissima Nees over seven years in small-scale farms in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, Vietnam. The results show that the environmental conditions for growing and developing the coffee trees improve in the area of mix-planting Coffea and Machilus.

The objective of the present study was to access the field situation with respect to coccidia and coccidiosis in broiler chickens raised in rural Assam through a questionnaire based survey, on farm necropsy and laboratory investigation. Analysis of farm history obtained from 48 small scale broiler farms consisting of 34 integration and 14 non-integration farms managed under deep litter system revealed awareness on coccidia among 27.08% farmers with occasional occurrence of the disease in their farms.

The present work has been taken to develop a suitable harvesting machine/ attachment which can be power tiller attached and operated by a multi -purpose tool carrier; for the small and marginal farmers. The paper highlights cost and returns of coffee growing by tribal farmers at Paderu division in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh.Data collection was done using pre tested questionnaire administrated on 90 coffee producers selected randomly. Pig farming is dispensable to the tribal folks of Manipur, India. In this study, we tried to establish baseline information on the socio-personal and socio-economical status of small scale tribal pig farmers in the state. Altogether, 400 tribal pig farmers, rearing ≥ 2 pigs were selected randomly and interviewed from 4 blocks of Senapati district, Manipur. The study showed that majority of tribal pig farmers (69.75%) belonged to middle age groups (31-50 years), followed by 19.25% young age groups (up to 30 years), and 11% old age groups (> 50 years), respectively.
