Social and economic development of women

Gender issues and gender inequality still exist in many countries, especially in remote and poor rural areas. Rural women often suffer from economic disadvantages, low self-confidence in the family and community, and limited access to health, social services, and extension services, which leads to lesser decisionmaking roles in the production and business of households and in leadership at work.

In particular, the level of disclosure of economic information reached the highest rate of 41% whereas the levels of disclosure of environmental and social issues were only 21% and 38% respectively. Other research findings show that several factors related to company characteristics such as company size, media exposure, composition of the board and women in the board of directors have positive impacts on the level of disclosure of sustainable development of listed companies in mining, manufacturing and construction sectors on the Vietnamese stock market.

This study assessed the empowerment of dairy women by developing an index by adopting a systematic procedure; seven dimensions under women empowerment were selected namely social, economic, psychological, cultural, political, legal and technological empowerment. The Normalised Rank Order Method was used for determining the scale values. These dimensions were ranked according to judges‟ perceived significance and proportions were calculated accordingly while determining the values for each, by Guilford table.

Rural women plays significant role in carrying out the responsibility of dairying through their membership in WDCS.
