Erwinia is a genus of Enterobacteriacea containing mostly pathogens, which cause soft rot disease in many ornamental plants and crops, including Asparagus officinalis. Chemical treatments to control Erwinia have lost their attractiveness because of the development of resistant strains and the negative impacts on the environment and human health.

Dickeya sp. strain PA1 is the causal agent of bacterial soft rot in Phalaenopsis, an important indoor orchid in China. PA1 and a few other strains were grouped into a novel species, Dickeya fangzhongdai, and only the orchid-associated strains have been shown to cause soft rot symptoms.

Pectobacterium spp. are necrotrophic bacterial plant pathogens of the family Pectobacteriaceae, responsible for a wide spectrum of diseases of important crops and ornamental plants including soft rot, blackleg, and stem wilt. P. carotovorum is a genetically heterogeneous species consisting of three valid subspecies, P. carotovorum subsp. brasiliense (Pcb), P. carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (Pcc), and P. carotovorum subsp. odoriferum (Pco).

Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. brasiliense is a broad host range bacterial pathogen, which causes blackleg of potatoes and bacterial soft rot of vegetables worldwide. Production of plant cell wall degrading enzymes is usually critical for Pectobacterium infection. However, other virulence factors and the mechanisms of genetic adaptation still need to be studied in detail.

Under this study, botanicals, plant volatiles, organic acids, organic salts and essential oils were used against E. carotovora subsp. carotovora under in vitro. Based on antibacterial efficacy, curative application was formulated against decay in carrot by dipping under laboratory conditions. Out of these all treatments, EC formulated consortia (cinnamon + lemongrass + thyme) oils at 0.1% given the better results against disease reduction (98.0%), weight loss (3.0%), and preserve the edible nature.

Chemical inducers facilitate broad-spectrum of induced resistance against plant pathogens and thus reduced the toxicity of the chemicals used in excess by the farmers for the management of plant diseases. Banana soft rot incited by Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. Carotovorum (Pcc) cause huge economical loss to the farming if infected at an early stage. In the present study, chemical inducers viz., salicylic acid, potassium silicate, potassium sulphate, fosetyl aluminium, humic acid @ 1000 ppm and COC 3g/lit + streptocycline 300ppm (check) were tested against Pccunder glass house conditions.

The present study was conducted to evaluate bacterial endophytes against Pythium spp. causing soft rot of ginger. Water soaked lesions at the emerging base and the collar region was the typical symptoms observed on infected plants. Sprout appeared pale yellowish and withering off of plant was seen and such rhizomes were rotten and emitted foul smell in which diseased plants came off with a gentle pull.

The rotting of potato tubers is usually noticed from the time of planting till harvesting also in country stores as well as in cold stores. The proper isolation, pathogenicity testing and necessary characterization studies are very much essential for identification of actual causal organism which is very necessary for development of effective management strategy.

The experiment was conducted to assess the performance of ginger genotypes suitable for high yield and resistance to soft rot disease in Gudalur block of The Nilgiris district. Fourteen genotypes were collected and the performance was studied for three seasons during the year 2015 - 2018. Acc-578 showed better performance in terms of vegetative and yield characters followed by Mahima. IISR-1 GB, Maran and Thadimaran recorded moderate resistance to per cent disease incidence under field conditions in the Nilgiris.

Erwinia chrysanthemi (Ec) is a destructive pathogen which causes soft-rot diseases in diverse plant species including orchids. We investigated whether colonization of Oncidium roots by the endophytic fungus Piriformospora indica (Pi) restricts Ec-induced disease development in leaves.

Seventy-eight genotypes were screened for charcoal rot resistance in the sick plot during rabi 2018-19. The results of the study indicated that the genotypes E 36-1 (11.53 %), followed by DSV 4 (12.24 %), Dagadi Solapur (13.40 %) showed less disease incidence compared to other genotypes. Highest per cent charcoal rot incidence was recorded in CSV 8R (54.34 %). The study also revealed that the local genotypes recorded reduced levels of other charcoal rot parameters such as per cent lodging due to charcoal rot (soft stalk), mean length of spread (MLS) and mean number of nodes crossed (MNC).

aqueous plant extracts against storage Bacterial soft rot is one of the most common diseases of vegetables including potato which is found both in field and storage. Although, various micro-organisms are responsible for the soft rot disease in potato but Erwinia carotovora is mostly responsible for this disease. Use of chemical antibiotics on stored products can lead to the development of multidrug resistance in various human pathogenic bacteria causing severe health complications.

The tomato (var. sumberson) is highly susceptible to diseases caused by microorganisms as well as pest infestations; as a result serious loss is caused thereof in the production of those crops. On the background of these facts, the research was focused on controlling the diseases through the selected treatments with the objectives of evaluating the efficacy of Lantana camara extract, Balanites extract and their combinations to assess on controlling the pest/disease incidence and severity in tomato field conducted in Hamelmalo Agricultural College.

In this study, an unknown mushroom species collected on rotting trunks of Ficus elastica in the Hanoi Botanical Garden was investigated. It was designated as Bt116. Based on the observed morphological characteristics, such as irregularly semi-circular, slightly yellow pileus; very soft, homogeneous, spongy, creamy white context; short and not clear stipes; and basidiospores typical of ganoderma mushrooms, etc., we hypothesized that Bt116 belongs to the Tomophagus Murr. mushroom genus.
