  • Ebook "Plant-plant allelopathic interactions II: Laboratory bioassays for water-soluble compounds with an emphasis on phenolic acids" presents detailed descriptions and analyses of the underlying features, issues and suppositions associated with seed and seedling laboratory bioassays presented in a previous volume. It is, however, broader in scope and substance in that the information provided is relevant to all water-soluble compounds released to soil by putative allelopathic living plants and their litter and residues.

  • Ebook "Modern biogeochemistry: Environmental risk assessment" quantitative ecological risk assessment is widely used in different contexts, however very often without an understanding of the natural mechanisms that drive the processes of environmental and human risk. Its application is often accompanied by high uncertainty about risk values. On the other hand, the sustainability of modern technoecosystems is known because of their natural biogeochemical cycling that has been transformed to various extents by anthropogenic studies.

  • Acid soil is a serious limitation to crop production all over the world. Toxic aluminium (Al) cations in acid soil inhibit root growth and reduce yield. Although a gene tolerant to acid soil has been identified, it has not been used in malting barley breeding, which is partly due to the acid soil tolerance gene being linked to unfavorable malting quality traits.

  • Used lead-acid battery recycling activities in Minh Khai handicraft village, Chi Dao commune, Van Lam district, Hung Yen province, Vietnam has markedly increased the lead (Pb) content in paddy soil. Reducing the mobility of lead and lead accumulation in rice plants/plain rice are major priorities to reduce the impacts of lead in paddy soil.

  • The study "Biochar mitigates salt stress by regulating nutrient uptake and antioxidant activity, alleviating the oxidative stress and abscisic acid content in cabbage seedlings" was conducted as factorial completely randomized design with two factors; salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) and biochar doses (weighed at the rate of 0%, 2.5%, and 5% by soil weight). Growth parameters such as stem diameter, leaf area, shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and root dry weight of cabbage seedlings treated with 150 mM NaCl were lower than the control.

  • Tea and hazelnut cultivated soils are mainly distributed in Black Sea region of Turkey. Low pH value is a primary problem for those soils; therefore, farmers apply lime once every 3–4 years to raise the pH value of soil. Gyttja is highly rich in organic matter (40.59%) and lime (45.67%), and it is a low cost and considerably abundant in Afşin-Elbistan Coal Basin (estimated reserve is around 4.8 billion tons). The aim of this study was to determine the phosphorus (P) sorption characteristics of gyttja, and its efficiency on P availability and soil’s pH value.
