This study aims to evaluate the effect of fire on soil properties at Zone A5, Tram Chim National Park, Tam Nong district, Dong Thap province. Findings indicated that soil type was acid sulfate, soil structures were clay, clay-silt and silt-clay. pH was low while moisture was high. Electrical conductivity and bulk density were in the tolerance range for the Eleocharis community.

This paper presents the first published selection of hybrid Melaleuca species which is experimented in Southern Vietnam. Among 126 inter-specific crossing Melaleuca combinations, 27 hybrids with trunk volume with bark exceeding by more than 20% in comparison with either of their best parents have been selected at the just young stage.

Ebook "Plant-plant allelopathic interactions II: Laboratory bioassays for water-soluble compounds with an emphasis on phenolic acids" presents detailed descriptions and analyses of the underlying features, issues and suppositions associated with seed and seedling laboratory bioassays presented in a previous volume. It is, however, broader in scope and substance in that the information provided is relevant to all water-soluble compounds released to soil by putative allelopathic living plants and their litter and residues.

Ebook "Modern biogeochemistry: Environmental risk assessment" quantitative ecological risk assessment is widely used in different contexts, however very often without an understanding of the natural mechanisms that drive the processes of environmental and human risk. Its application is often accompanied by high uncertainty about risk values. On the other hand, the sustainability of modern technoecosystems is known because of their natural biogeochemical cycling that has been transformed to various extents by anthropogenic studies.

Ebook "Abiotic stress adaptation in plants: Physiological, molecular and genomic foundation" on abiotic stress attempts to search for possible answers to several basic questions related to plant responses towards abiotic stresses. Presented in this book is a holistic view of the general principles of stress perception, signal transduction and regulation of gene expression. Further, chapters analyze not only model systems but extrapolate interpretations obtained from models to crops.

Acid soil is a serious limitation to crop production all over the world. Toxic aluminium (Al) cations in acid soil inhibit root growth and reduce yield. Although a gene tolerant to acid soil has been identified, it has not been used in malting barley breeding, which is partly due to the acid soil tolerance gene being linked to unfavorable malting quality traits.

Used lead-acid battery recycling activities in Minh Khai handicraft village, Chi Dao commune, Van Lam district, Hung Yen province, Vietnam has markedly increased the lead (Pb) content in paddy soil. Reducing the mobility of lead and lead accumulation in rice plants/plain rice are major priorities to reduce the impacts of lead in paddy soil.

The study "Biochar mitigates salt stress by regulating nutrient uptake and antioxidant activity, alleviating the oxidative stress and abscisic acid content in cabbage seedlings" was conducted as factorial completely randomized design with two factors; salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) and biochar doses (weighed at the rate of 0%, 2.5%, and 5% by soil weight). Growth parameters such as stem diameter, leaf area, shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and root dry weight of cabbage seedlings treated with 150 mM NaCl were lower than the control.

Vietnam and Cambodia have same significant strategic benefits in the Mekong Delta. And, the trans-boundary dimension and respective management issues are highline agenda of them. Although, the economic development of each country is different in the boundary region of Mekong Delta, two countries have a same problems as from the natural hazard (including flood, drought, acid sulphate soils, and saltwater intrusion) to the impact of upstream development, a myriad of flood controlling infrastructure, and the implications of climate change.

A carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)-degrading bacterium was isolated from soil, identified as Bacillus methylotrophicus according to the physiological properties and analyses of 16S rRNA and a partial sequence of the gyrase A (gyrA) gene, and named as B. methylotrophicus Y37. The CMCase enzyme was purified to homogeneity by 20.4-fold with 21.73% recovery using single-step hydrophobic interaction chromatography and biochemically characterized. CMCase showed a molecular weight of approximately 50 kDa as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Tea and hazelnut cultivated soils are mainly distributed in Black Sea region of Turkey. Low pH value is a primary problem for those soils; therefore, farmers apply lime once every 3–4 years to raise the pH value of soil. Gyttja is highly rich in organic matter (40.59%) and lime (45.67%), and it is a low cost and considerably abundant in Afşin-Elbistan Coal Basin (estimated reserve is around 4.8 billion tons). The aim of this study was to determine the phosphorus (P) sorption characteristics of gyttja, and its efficiency on P availability and soil’s pH value.

Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a serious factor restricting crop productivity in acid soil, and Al is the major cause of phytotoxicity. However, the role of Al toxicity in interprimer binding site (iPBS) polymorphism, genomic instability, and DNA methylation has not been fully investigated. In the current study, the effects of different Al concentrations on iPBS polymorphism, genomic instability, and DNA methylation were investigated in seedlings of three wheat cultivars: Haymana 79, Kılçıksız, and Bezostaja 1.

Polymer blending as an efficient method for blending at least two polymers is usually used to create new materials with desirable physical properties. This article focuses on the biodegradability evaluation of polypropylene (PP) fibers modified with disposable recycled poly(lactic acid) (r-PLA) plastic flakes. Biodegradable modified PP fibers containing 30% r-PLA were prepared by melt spinning process and evaluated with different methods of biodegradation assays.
