This paper outlines a numerical investigation into the load transfer mechanism of a deeply monitored embankment supported by DCM (Deep Cement Mixing) columns. The study compares field measurements, such as excess pore water pressure, lateral movement, load distribution between the soil and DCM columns, and settlement, against the numerical analysis results.

This practice covers procedures, soils, and soil placement for the proper installation of corrugated steel pipe and pipe-arches produced to Specification A760/A760M or A762/ A762M, in either trench or embankment installations. A typical trench installation and a typical embankment (projection) installation are shown in Figs. The pipes described in this practice are manufactured in a factory and furnished to the job in lengths ordinarily from 10 to 30 ft, with 20 ft being common, for field joining. This practice applies to structures designed in accordance with Practice A796/A796M.

This practice covers procedures, soils, and soil placement for the proper installation of corrugated steel structural plate pipe, pipe-arches, arches, and underpasses produced to Specification A761/A761M, in either trench or embankment installations. A typical trench installation and a typical embankment (projection) installation are shown in Figs. 1 and 2, respectively. Structural plate structures as described herein are those structures factory fabricated in plate form and bolted together on site to provide the required shape, size, and length of structure.

In many areas, poor ground conditions are a common hindrance to the construction of structures over soft ground. To deal with that problem, the geosynthetic reinforced pile-supported embankment has been widely used over recent years to support infrastructure due to the benefits for construction such as low cost and time reduction.

In this paper, we present an effectively numerical approach based on isogeometric analysis (IGA) for geometrically nonlinear analysis of retaining walls. The geometrical nonlinearity is formed in the total Lagrange approach; Whereas, the material is linear elastic. Deformations are large to use finite deformation theory.

Geosynthetics have been widely used as a specific reinforcement in order to support embankments constructed in areas subject to localized sinkholes. Well known for economic and environmental benefits, the solution works based on several mechanisms such as soil expansion, the effect of membrane and friction, and load transfer.

A review of available design techniques and numerical analysis of piled embankment with Geosynthetic
Piled embankment reinforced geosynthetics are used as integrated foundation systems for construction of embankment over soft ground. Several design guidelines are available in the literature for these embankments based on the soil arching and tensioned membrane theories. However, among design engineers, there is uncertainty regarding the applicability of these design methods. This paper investigates some practical aspects and identifies some inconsistencies in applying these design methods.

This study presents an advanced analytical method for design of geosynthetic reinforced piled supported embankment, which based on the combination of arching effect, tensioned membrane action, and shear resistance mechanism. The present method describes the complex behavior and interaction between geosynthetic-soil-pile, thereby providing more suitable design approaches and believed to be a useful tool for engineers in designing soil-geosynthetic system.

An exhibiting artist since 1966, Lucia Pacenza is one of her country’s major sculptors. Her work is represented in collections in Argentina, Mexico, Spain and the United States. She completed this commission while Artist in Residence at the ANU School of Art. As with Janus, the classical god of doorways whose two faces look both forward and backward, so this arch combines references to both beginnings and ends. The concertina-folded and tooth-edged working around the hole suggests body openings and birth.
