Vermicompost contains beneficial bacteria, vermicompost is a finely divided peat-like material with high porosity, good ventilation, drainage, water-holding capacity, microorganism activity, Excellent nutritional status and buffering capacity thus provide the physiological properties required for soil fertility and plant growth. Worm manure enhances soil biodiversity by promoting entry and enhances plant growth directly by producing plant growth-regulating hormones and enzymes.

Water availability and nutrient-status of soils play crucial roles in seedling establishment and plant survival in coal-spoiled areas worldwide. Restoration of spoils pertains to the application of proper doses of nutrients and water, and selection of particular plant species for efficient revegetation.

The impact of Improved agricultural practice (IAP) with emphasis on soil analysis based organic manure and chemical fertilizer application, replacement of 25% chemical fertilizer with Bio-fertilizers and Integrated Pest Management, was studied for 3 successive years in 5 fields in Ricelentil – Okra cropping system in Gangetic Alluvial zones of West Bengal, India. IAP was seen to have significant beneficial effects on elevating soil organic carbon content and increase soil pH towards normality.

A screen house experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2018-19 to find out the effect of different levels of P and Zn on wheat yield, concentration of different nutrients in grain and straw in low and high P status soil. Five levels of P (0, 30, 60, 120 and 180 mg P kg-1 soil) and four levels of Zn (0, 2.5, 5 and 10 mg Zn kg-1 soil) were applied in completely randomized design with three replications.

In this paper, the global and Indian scenarios about organic farming have been reviewed. In India, the cultivated land under certification is just 2.8 Mha. Yield declines in organic farm conversion, enhancement of soil fertility, introduction of animals, certification restrictions, biodiversity, marketing and policy support are the key concerns arising in organic farming.

In acidic soils of Nagaland, the levels of available soil N, P and K together with organic carbon content and soil pH could be considered main soil fertility determinants. With a vision to come up with a best performing treatment that can be recommended for practice in the farmer’s field and to popularize the importance of forest litter in achieving sustainability, the present investigation has been undertaken to evaluate the effect of forest litter and its time of incorporation on soil fertility status.

In the present study, a considerable build up in soil organic carbon under tree canopy as compared to open canopy was found and soil organic carbon under tree canopy decreased with an increase in soil depth and increasing canopy distance. The total nitrogen percentage in soil decreased with an increase in depth and canopy. In case of available soil phosphorus, it decreased under the tree canopy with increasing soil depth and canopy distance.

The Knowledge of spatial-variability is critical for site specific nutrient management in soil fertility. Soil sample (149) were gotten from surface from 10 selected sites for preparing precise digital maps using point, line and polygon tools of the GIS (TNTmips 2010) software. Soil spatial variability typically defines variation in soil properties in surface soil such as fertility, pH, EC, soil organic carbon (OC), free CaCO3, mineralizable N,P2O5, K2O and S.

An experiment has been conducted to study the effects of application of different level of organic fertiliser and inorganic fertiliser on economic of onion production as well as the fertiliser uptake by plant. From the data it was found that the 25% RDF + 75% N of poultry manure was most effective treatment in respect to economics of onion cultivation for higher net return with greater benefit cost (B: C) ratio as well as uptake of NPK.
