Soil organic carbon storage

This study aims to apply the RothC model for predicting the carbon storage potential of Deciduous Broadleaf Forest (DBF) in Dak Lak province. The prediction results reveal that soil organic carbon of the DBF shows an increasing trend during the period of 2020 - 2050. The results of the prediction of organic components indicate that Humi

The review study assessed that the adoption of CA in rice-wheat system for a few uninterrupted years can substantially improves the organic carbon carbon status, and reduce the sub-surface compaction and the modified soil environment may promote rice-wheat system productivity in directseeded/ unpuddled transplanted rice and notill wheat system, in comparison to a conventional system, where rice was puddletransplanted followed by conventionally tilled wheat.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) and Soil inorganic carbon (SIC) are important as it determine ecosystem and agro-ecosystem functions influencing soil structure, soil fertility, water holding capacity, cation exchange capacity and other soil characteristics. It is also of global importance because of its role in the global carbon cycle(GCC). The understanding of soil carbon in terms of its amount and quality is essential to sustain the quality and productivity of soils.

Investigating microbial metabolic characteristics and soil organic carbon (SOC) within aggregates and their relationships under conservation tillage may be useful in revealing the mechanism of SOC sequestration in conservation tillage systems. Crop residue retention has been considered a practicable strategy to improve soil organic carbon (SOC) but the effectiveness of residue retention might be different under varied tillage practices.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics in croplands is a crucial component of global carbon (C) cycle. Depending on local environmental conditions and management practices, typical C input is generally required to reduce or reverse C loss in agricultural soils. Changes in the soil organic carbon (SOC) stock are determined by the balance between the carbon input from organic materials and the output from the decomposition of soil C. The fate of SOC in cropland soils plays a significant role in both sustainable agricultural production and climate change mitigation.

The results demonstrated that BGRs did not affect SOC negatively over a period of ten years. The simulation predicted similar effect of BGRs and cattle slurry on SOC. The analysis of the cropping system showed that the changes in cropping system had greater impact on SOC than fertilization.

Grasslands occur on every continent except Antarctica, and constitute about 34 percent of the global terrestrial carbon stock. Changes in grassland vegetation due to overgrazing, conversion to crop land, desertification, fire, fragmentation, and introduction of non‐native species affect their carbon storage capacity, and may in some cases even lead to grasslands becoming a net source of CO2. For example, they may lose 20 to 50 percent of their soil organic carbon content through cultivation, soil erosion, and land degradation.
