  • Ebook "Remote sensing of biosphere functioning (Ecological studies, Volume 79)" will rely heavily on the emerging technology of remote sensing from airborne vehicles, particularly satellites. Satellites offer the potential of continuously viewing large seg ments of the earth's surface, thus documenting the changes that are occur ring. The task, however, is not only to document global change, which will be an enormous job, but also to understand the significance of these changes to the biosphere. Effects on the biosphere may cover all spatial scales from global to local.

  • Ebook "Geochemistry of organic matter in river-sea systems" is important for the following reasons: information about organic matter transport by rivers is required for estimating total run-off of dissolved and suspended substances from the earth's surface into seas and oceans. They give a possibility to judge the quantity and the quality of organic matter in various climatic zones of the Earth, sources of organic matter, peculiarities of its transformation and migration in various sections of the rivers, from the head to the mouth.

  • The research article "Polyester production by halophilic and halotolerant bacterial strains obtained from mangrove soil samples located in Northern Vietnam" reports halophilic and halotolerant bacteria isolated from mangrove forests located in Northern Vietnam. Several of these bacteria were able to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). PHAs are polyesters stored by microorganisms under the presence of considerable amounts of a carbon source and deficiency of other essential nutrient such as nitrogen or phosphorous.

  • Tea and hazelnut cultivated soils are mainly distributed in Black Sea region of Turkey. Low pH value is a primary problem for those soils; therefore, farmers apply lime once every 3–4 years to raise the pH value of soil. Gyttja is highly rich in organic matter (40.59%) and lime (45.67%), and it is a low cost and considerably abundant in Afşin-Elbistan Coal Basin (estimated reserve is around 4.8 billion tons). The aim of this study was to determine the phosphorus (P) sorption characteristics of gyttja, and its efficiency on P availability and soil’s pH value.

  • The SARS-CoV-2 virus has given birth to several other new diseases in that the rapidly spreading infections of post-COVID recovered cases is Mucormycosis or black fungus. Mucormycosis is a very rare infection. It is mostly found in the environment such as soil, plants, manure and decaying organic matter. Mucormycosis is more common among people who have health problems or take medicines that lower the immunity. The symptoms of mucormycosis or black fungus depend on which part of the body the fungus is growing.

The soil particle size ranged from 0.02 to 2.00mm mainly found in the surface horizon (>77.7%). The soil was slightly acidic in the surface horizon, and highly acidic in the subsurface horizons (pHKCl from 3.42 to 4.79). The organic matter content of the surface horizon was mederate, while it was very low in the other horizons.
