Soil water in the coastal zones is more vulnerable to salinization. Soil-water vulnerability assessment is an effective tool for soil-water management. This study used the DRASTIC model, which is based on seven factors viz: Depth to soil water, recharge, soil-water bearing layer, soil media, topography, impact of root zone, and hydraulic conductivity to evaluate soil-water salinization potentiality of Ben Tre province.

Ebook "Mycorrhizas: Novel dimensions in the changing world" provides basic knowledge in mycorrhizal ecology, knitted with novel conceptual frameworks and contemporary perspectives, especially in the context of global change. In a fast changing world wherein anthropogenic climate change, biological invasions, deforestation, desertification, and frequent droughts have become routine hard realities, the contents of this book urge readers to rethink basic notions of setting and accomplishing objectives in mycorrhizal research to make sense vis-à-vis contemporary challenges.

Ebook "Use of microbes for the alleviation of soil stresses, Volume 1" describes the most important details and advances related to the alleviation of soil stresses by soil microbes. Comprised of seven chapters, the book reviews the mechanisms by which plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) alleviate plant growth under stress; the role of mycorrhizal fungi on the alleviation of drought stress in host plants; how PGPR may alleviate salinity stress on the growth of host plants; and the role of PGPR on the growth of the host plant under the stress of sub optimal root zone temperature.

Coastal dunes are characterised by plant species adapted to harsh conditions. Salinity and other factors (soil pH, nutrients, and climate events) vary along the landward gradient. The current study investigated the effects of environmental factors on the occurrence and composition of coastal dune plants. Ellenberg ecological indicator values (EIVs), species tolerance values (TVs), and species niche models for salinity, nutrient availability, and soil reaction were determined.

In paper "Fine root vertical-seasonal distribution of Robinia pseudoacacia in relation to abiotic factors in a chronosequence in coastal saline alkali land of the Yellow River Delta, China", FRB, FRL, FRSA, SWC and soil nutrients increased, while SRL and SSC decreased with increasing stand age. Vertically, fine roots were concentrated in a 0–20 cm soil layer. SRL, SWC and SSC increased, while soil nutrients decreased with increasing soil depth.

The study "Biochar mitigates salt stress by regulating nutrient uptake and antioxidant activity, alleviating the oxidative stress and abscisic acid content in cabbage seedlings" was conducted as factorial completely randomized design with two factors; salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) and biochar doses (weighed at the rate of 0%, 2.5%, and 5% by soil weight). Growth parameters such as stem diameter, leaf area, shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and root dry weight of cabbage seedlings treated with 150 mM NaCl were lower than the control.

The research article "Polyester production by halophilic and halotolerant bacterial strains obtained from mangrove soil samples located in Northern Vietnam" reports halophilic and halotolerant bacteria isolated from mangrove forests located in Northern Vietnam. Several of these bacteria were able to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). PHAs are polyesters stored by microorganisms under the presence of considerable amounts of a carbon source and deficiency of other essential nutrient such as nitrogen or phosphorous.

The results indicated that Number of tillers/plant, number of leaves/plant, leaves area/plant at vegetative stage, biomass, days to heading, number of kernels/spike, 1000-kerenl weight, grain yield, K+ concentration and K+/Na+ ratio were decreased under salinity treatments as compared with control, and hence Na+ concentration was increased.

Results obtained indicated that both RS-compost and OMW-compost had positive effects on soil properties where barley growth and productivity were more than the conventional organic fertilization under saline conditions; yet, applying OMW-compost under the saline conditions should be under precautions to prevent increasing the EC of the soil.

This study aimed to isolate and identify different Enterococcus spp. from diverse sources including dromedary raw milk, rhizospheric soil and natural saline water samples and to determine their antimicrobial activities and safety aspects. From these sources, distinct strains of E. faecium, E. durans, E. hirae, and E. gallinarum species were detected.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are byproducts of normal plant metabolism and their production is elevated under environmental stresses such as drought, extreme temperature, and salinity. Among these, salinity is a worldwide problem that impacts the fertility of arable lands and sustainability of food security, which is getting more attention due to climate change. Halophytes can survive and reproduce in soils containing high concentrations of salt and have developed adaptation mechanisms at physiological, biochemical, and molecular levels including maintenance of ROS metabolism.

Our study sets forth the outcomes of an interdisciplinary project conducted in order to fill the information gap on the management of a wetland ecosystem, in the case of a protected area on the south-eastern coast of Turkey. The hypothesis of the study is that the pattern of species composition reflects soil salinity level and some species can act as relevant indicators. The study aimed to discover a relationship between soil salinity and vegetation composition and establish some indicators useful for monitoring.

Soil salinity threatens the yield and food security worldwide and use of halophytes might be a valid option to cope with devastating salinity effects. The present investigation was accomplished to evaluate the role of glycine betaine (GB) as presowing seed treatment on growth parameters, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange attributes, enzymatic antioxidants, lipid peroxidation (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ), endogenous GB, total soluble proteins (TSP), and yield in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) under saline conditions.

Soil salinization represents a serious threat to global rice production. Although significant research has been conducted to understand salt stress at the genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic levels, few studies have focused on the translatomic responses to this stress.

Soil salinity is one of the primary causes of yield decline in rice. Pokkali (Pok) is a highly salt-tolerant landrace, whereas IR29 is a salt-sensitive but widely cultivated genotype. Comparative analysis of these genotypes may offer a better understanding of the salinity tolerance mechanisms in rice.
