  • The present experiment was carried out during November, 2019 to April, 2020 in Shade net, Research Field, Department of Horticulture, SHUATS, Prayagraj. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design (RBD), with eight treatments, replicated thrice with growing media (FYM + Vermicompost + Cocopeat) and variety (Ganga) on Capsicum.

  • The experiment was conducted during the year of 2015-2016 under semi-climate greenhouse condition at Center for Protected Cultivation Technology (CPCT), farm at Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, to study the effect of electrical conductivity of irrigation water on crop water uptake. The yellow colored popular and widely accepted capsicum variety Swarna was selected for the study. Four strategies/treatments based on electrical conductivity of the fertigation solution were applied with three replications during the entire growing period.

  • Hydrogel is basically a water absorbing polymer, which are classified as cross-linked, absorb aqueous solutions through hydrogen bonding with water molecules. Agricultural hydrogels are referred to as water retention granules because they swell to many times their original size when they come in contact with water. It has been widely proposed over the last 40 years for agricultural use with the aim to ameliorate water availability for plants, by increasing water holding properties of growing media (soils or soilless substrates).

  • Trials were conducted under protected conditions for two consecutive years to ascertain the role of different growing media on quality characteristics of strawberry cv. Chandler fruits. The investigations revealed that the plants grown in growing substrate composed of perlite + FYM (1:1) had the maximum influence on flower, fruit and yield characteristics in comparison to all other soilless substrates used under study. This substrate was also found to have a positive influence on physico-chemical characteristics like total soluble solids, total sugars and reducing sugars.
