In order to get a better insight into the relationship between molecular structure and photovoltaic performance, six monoazo dye molecules containing benzoic and cinnamic acid moieties were synthesized and their photovoltaic properties were studied. Three of them have not been previously used in solar cells. Spectroscopic measurements of the investigated compounds coupled with theoretical calculations were performed. Short-circuit current density, open-circuit voltage, and fill-factor were determined.

To this aim, ten physics-based models have been investigated to determine the cell temperature, and those models have been validated using measured PV cell temperatures by computing the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Then, the model with the lowest RMSE has been adopted in training a data-driven prediction model. The proposed prediction model is to use an ANN compared to the well-known benchmark model from the literature, i.e., Multiple Linear Regression (MLR).

This paper presents the preliminary analysis of ground-based measurements solar data in Umlazi, South Africa. From this analysis, data statistics and statistic models for the global horizontal irradiance (GHI), the direct horizontal irradiance (DHI) and the ultraviolet radiations (UVR) are obtained for Durban and surrounding areas. Those results can be used in the design and analysis of solar systems and can also be used as referential parameters for further assessment of solar energy potentials for those areas.

Catalyst TiO2 with N-doped, Mg-doped and N-Mg co-doped were created by impregnation method with Mg(NO3)2 (add Mg in) and mix method with urea (add N in). The XRD, SEM, DR, BET, FT-IR measurements were carried out for structural characterization of the TiO2 samples. The result performed, compared with the sample of initial TiO2-P25 particle size and specific surface area, samples of doped-catalyst changed insignificantly.

In this paper, we prepared CZTS nanoparticles by hydrothermal method and investigate the influence of hydrothermal temperature on the product. Raman scattering, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microcopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and diffusion reflective measurement were applied to characterize the products. The products are high quality nanocrystals of kesterite phase with uniform size which is applicable for solar absorber layer fabrication.
