  • Ebook "Characterization and design of zeolite catalysts: Solid acidity, shape selectivity and loading properties" provide us the strong acidity with the fine distribution which enables various useful catalytic reactions. When some metals and cations are loaded in close to the acid sites, these loaded elements show extraordinary characters, and many catalytic reactions proceed thereon. Microporosity provides us a unique property of the shape selectivity, and the excellent selectivity is observed.

  • This article has reviewed the progress that has been made in bioleaching research of metals using filamentous fungi. This review has focused on fungal bioleaching from various metal sources, including mine tailings, electronic waste, solid mine wastes, spent catalysts, and low-grade ores. Filamentous fungi are used in bioleaching due to their ability to secrete organic acids and facilitate the solubilization of metal ions from the solution phase.

  • A novel melamine–formaldehyde resin (MFR) supported solid acid with Lewis and Brønsted acid sites was synthesized through the immobilization of acidic ionic liquid and cuprous ion on MFR. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) characterization showed that addition of PEG-2000 in the synthesis of MFR could promote the formation of regular particles with diameters around 3.7 µm. The XRD pattern demonstrated that some cuprous ions were aggregated.

  • Biodiesel, fatty acid methyl ester produced by the transesterification of vegetable oil with methanol, is a promising alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel. In the present study, the methanolysis of high free fatty acid (FFA) Jatropha curcas oil in a transesterification reaction using K2CO3/CaO solid base catalyst was studied. The various reaction parameters in the transesterification reaction were also discussed.

  • A one-pot, environmentally friendly, and efficient protocol for the synthesis of novel polyfunctionalized benzo[a]pyrimido[5’,4’:5,6]pyrido[2,3-c ]phenazine derivatives has been reported by a one-pot, four-component sequential reaction between 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione, benzene-1,2-diamines, benzaldehydes, and 6-amino-1,3-dimethyluracil in the presence of p-TSA as a nontoxic, inexpensive, ecofriendly, and efficacious solid acid catalyst. Two C-C bonds, two C=N bonds, and one C-N bond, as well as two new rings, were formed in this reaction.

  • Potentially active and eco-friendly solid acid catalysts have been synthesized by loading different weight percentages (10, 15, and 50) of nickel oxide on thermally activated Turkish perlite through the deposition-precipitation method. Structural features of prepared catalysts were analyzed using BET surface area analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope (SEM), SEM-EDX, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), pyridine adsorbed FT-IR, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques.

  • The results showed that the active component Zr(SO4 )2 was successfully adhered to the mesoporous SiO2 , and the acid amount of Zr(SO4)2/SiO2 increased with the increasing of the Zr(SO4)2 loadings. Finally, the wheat stalk was used as raw material and depolymerized over Zr(SO4)2/SiO2 to produce ethyl levulinate (EL). The reaction mixture was separated and purified by filtration and vacuum distillation. The kinetic characteristics and the reaction pathway were also studied. A comparative study showed that 20 wt.% Zr(SO4)2/SiO2 exhibited higher catalytic activity.

  • Iron is an essential micro-mineral in human nutrition. It is a mineral found in every cell of the body and required to make part of blood cell. It participates as a catalyst in several metabolic reactions. As a component of haemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochrome and other proteins, iron plays an important role in the transport, storage and utilization of oxygen and cellular proliferation. In this study, an attempt was made to prepare dahi by using 1% starter culture, fortified with iron by using ferrous lactate @ 40 mg/kg milk.

  • In this study, we successfully synthesized Zn-Sn and Al-Sn catalysts by the combination of co-precipitation and hydrothermal methods. These catalysts were prepared by hydrothermal method using ZnCl2, SnCl4 and AlCl3 precursors. Structure and physical properties of catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The products of glycerol conversion product was also tested by gas chromatography.

  • Consumption of excessive big quantity of trance-isomers leads to organism dysfunction at cellular level. It is established that trance-isomers metabolized in an organism much more slowly than natural cis-isomers. The work is aimed at research of technologies of reception of firm fats with the minimum maintenance of trance isomerized fat acids. At hydrogenation of vegetable oils there are various collateral reactions, including trance isomerization during which natural cis-isomers of fat acids turn to trance-isomers.

  • The main purpose of this study was to find out optimal conditions for producing biodiesel via esterification of palmitic acid in excess methanol using solid acid catalyst, viz. Amberlite™ IR-120 (H) resin. A stepwise regression for Box-Behnken design was performed to optimize parameters of this process. A 93.94 % of conversion efficiencies could be explained by an insignificant lack-of-fit response surface model (R 2 = 0.9394; p = 0.259). Optimum conditions were found as follows: 8:1 in the molar feed ratio of methanol to palmitic acid, a reaction temperature as 61.
