SOM method

The research applies self-organizing maps (SOM) technique in combination with K–Means method to objectively classify weather patterns that cause summer heat wave in Viet Nam based on the dataset from 1998 to 2018. The pressure of mean sea level (PMSL) and geopotential height at 500hpa (H500) of JRA25 reanalysis data are used.

In the present study, diagnostic analysis of the irrigation system was done and a rotational water allocation plan on the basis of ET requirement of crops was developed for a command area. The crop water requirements for the major Rabi crops viz. wheat, gram and barley were computed by Penman-Monteith method using computer program ‘CROPWAT’ and these were used in the development of rotational water allocation plan. This system leads to increased credibility and reliability, enhanced equity in water distribution, proper utilization of water resources and increased water use efficiency.

Soil organic matter (SOM) is a key factor for building and maintaining soil quality. The SOM quality is commonly assessed using densitometric and sieving separation methods, but such methods do not inform on the biochemical composition of SOM. Our objective was to evaluate the van Soest extraction procedure for soluble ( SOL), holocellulose (HOLO) and lignin/cutin (LIC) fractions of SOM after incorporating crop residues and animal wastes into a C-depleted loamy sand.

A Self-Organizing Map (SOM) has good quality when both of its measures, quantization error (QE) and topographic error (TE), are small. Many researchers have tried to reduce these measures by improving SOM’s learning algorithm, however, most results only decrease either QE or TE. In this paper, a method to improve the quality of the map obtained when the SOM’s learning algorithm ended is proposed.
