Ebook "Agronomic handbook: Management of crops, soils, and their fertility" covers both major agronomic fields. Containing essential data and information on the culture of the world's major agronomic grain, oil, fiber, and sugar crops grown on a wide range of soil types, Agronomic Handbook: Management of Crops, Soils, and Their Fertility serves as a practical reference on the management of crops and soils from planting to harvest.

The project of pilot energy crops will open a new direction in environmental rehabilitation and restoration works as well as the environmental and socio-economic benefits as: To improve the soil condition and increase the value of land after mining as well as the regional biodiversity contribution; To salvage the mine-land as the feeding area for local animals in the condition of increased limited cultivation areas, indirectly generate bio-energy through Bio-digester model.

Results revealed that crop sequence decreased significantly numbers (m2 ) and dry weight of grassy, broad-leaved and total weeds (g/m2 ) in both seasons. Sowing pea after clover/sorghum and clover/peanut decreased the numbers (m2 ) and dry weight of weeds (g/m2 ) and increased significant plant height, number of branches/plant.

Sugarcane aphid (Melanaphis sacchari) outbreaks in sorghum that were first reported in 2013 are now the most significant threat to this crop in all major sorghum production areas in the U.S. The outcomes of interactions between sugarcane aphid and sorghum and thus the severity of the outbreaks depend on sorghum genotype and potentially also on the phenology of sorghum.

Sorghum bicolor is the fifth most commonly grown cereal worldwide and is remarkable for its drought and abiotic stress tolerance. For these reasons and the large size of biomass varieties, it has been proposed as a bioenergy crop. However, little is known about the genes underlying sorghum’s abiotic stress tolerance and biomass yield.

The process of crop domestication often consists of two stages: Initial domestication, where the wild species is first cultivated by humans, followed by diversification, when the domesticated species are subsequently adapted to more environments and specialized uses.

Sorghum grain mold is the most important disease of the crop. The disease results from simultaneous infection of the grain by multiple fungal species. Host responses to these fungi and the underlying molecular and cellular processes are poorly understood.

Conventional tillage and cereal-cereal cropping systems cause degradation of soil health and quality by depleting soil organic carbon as well as other nutrients. Therefore we studied the “Effect of long term zero tillage and different moisture regimes on soil organic carbon and its fractions in legume based cropping systems of northwestern Indo-Gangetic Plains”.

Four cultivars of sorghum were tested under three in situ moisture conservation practices during kharif seasons of 2015 and 2016 at Kanpur. Results revealed that the organic residue mulch @ 4 t ha-1 on soil surface in between the crop rows after 25 days of sowing brought out significant improvement in crop canopy development and yields over ridging and furrowing in between the crop rows at 25 DAS and farmer's practice (control).

Sorghum is an important tropical cereal food, feed and fodder crop. It is important grain and forage crop of semiarid regions due to its high adaptability and suitability to rainfed low input agriculture. The present experiment consist of three varieties viz., SPV-2217, GS-23 and M 35-1 and nine treatments...

In this study, the mycoflora present in the rhizosphere of four crops viz. rice, Sorghum, pigeonpea and urdbean were identified under controlled environmental conditions with the aim to know the host-specificity of mycoflora and to enrich the specific groups of bioagents. These potential microbes will be helpful in finding out good alternative to sustain the crop yield without having chemical residues in food.

The field experiment was conducted the year 2014-2015 on the old long-term fertilizer experiment started since 1983 to assess characterization of humus in soil and it’s relation with physical and physic-chemical properties of soil under the long – term effect of integrated nutrient management in sorghum wheat cropping system. The study showed that there was fraction of humus tended to decrease with depth and use of organics like subabul and FYM in conjunction with NPK fertilizers exerted a remarkable impact on the distribution and built up of humus fractions in soil.

Water stress periods are common in rainfed agriculture therefore the activities aimed at conserving the rainwater should be adopted for improving the productivity of dryland crops. The major crops in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra are cotton, soybean and sorghum. It was observed that the drought situation may arise during crop growth period which may result in partial failure of crops. It was therefore felt worthwhile to adopt the proper methods of in-situ moisture conservation so as to partially meet out the adverse effect of water stress in standing crop.

Pearlmillet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) is largely grown for grain and fodder purpose under those situations where other crops generally fail. Pearlmillet as a food crop is limited to the developing countries in Asia, and particularly in Africa and ranked sixth in the world followed by rice, wheat, maize, barley and sorghum (Anonymous, 2010-11).

The current work was focused on evaluating 24 sorghum accessions for fodder yield potential and nutritional quality during summer 2015 in the Department of Forage Crops, TNAU, Coimbatore. Plant samples were collected at 50% flowering stage and evaluated for nine fodder yield and 13 forage quality parameters. Grounded samples were used for assessing the fodder quality.

Interaction between soil microbes and minerals play a major role in environmental cycling processes, which leads to the mobilization of nutrients from soil components into available forms for biological uptake which enhances crop growth and yield. In the present study four (4) potassium solubilizing bacteria (KSB), eight (8) zinc solubilizing bacteria (ZnSB) and two (2) zinc solubilizing fungi (ZnSF) isolated from Rice, Maize, Cotton and Sorghum rhizosphere soil collected from Student and College farm Rajendranagar PJTSAU Hyderabad.

The basis for genetic enhancement in any crop is systematic assessment of variability and genetic diversity available in the germplasm. The most widely used technique to assess the genetic diversity is Mahalanobis’s D2 statistic. In the present study, this technique has been applied to assess the diversity among 228 sorghum genotypes.
