In this paper, two species are newly recognized in Turkey. One is new to science, described as Zodarion kunti sp. n. (♂, ♀) from southeast Anatolian region. The other, Zodarion christae Bosmans, 2009 is found for the first time in Denizli, Antalya, and Muğla provinces. The spiders of the family Zodariidae are characterized by the absence of gnathocoxal serrula and by having long anterior spinnerets (Jocqué, 1991).

The species could survive there and regular reports in the press (e.g., road kills) indicate that the species is still widespread and not extremely rare. Several animals were confirmed to live in a nature reserve established for the protection of Striped Hyaenas in the Hatay province. Altogether, the present-day distribution range of the Striped Hyaena in Turkey is split into two parts: a highly threatened relict populations in the west and a larger, slightly less threatened population in the southeast.

The mineralogy and geochemistry of volcaniclastic sediments in the southeastern part of the Arapgir area (Malatya) were studied by optical microscopy, XRD, SEM, ICP-AES, and MS techniques. Samples were collected from the marine and lacustrine deposits of the Dibekli and Böğürlüdağ sections that contained calcite, clay minerals, feldspar, quartz, dolomite, and opal.

Central Anatolia is quiet in terms of seismic activity, and rarely earthquakes up to magnitude 5.6 occur in the inner part of the Anatolian block or Anatolian platelet. Southeast of Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, two earthquake sequences with maximum magnitude of 5.6 occurred in 2005 and 2007.

Soil salinity and water logging, as well as water scarcity, are the most common problems limiting irrigated agriculture crop production in southeast Turkey. Thus, this study was conducted in order to predict the effect of drainage control factors on irrigation efficiency, irrigation sufficiency, root zone salinity and drain discharge using SaltMod simulation.

In January 2006, the avian flu virus spread west from Southeast Asia to Turkey, claiming the first human cases and deaths outside of Southeast Asia and China. In February 2006, the virus reached Africa and the Caspian Sea. Experts warn that no matter how prepared Canada is, we will not be spared from a pandemic, and that it could claim as many as 58,000 lives (See Fast Facts, Page 3). Once a pandemic virus emerges, it will be too late to begin planning. The virus is highly contagious and spreads quickly. There will be only...
