Soybean drought
-
In this research, soybean was planted in soil collected from the Red River Delta of Vietnam to test two hypotheses: (i) drought reduces rhizosphere enzyme activities and hampers the extent of the high enzyme activity along single root (from the root tips), and (ii) the turnover time of substrate by enzymes increases with decreasing soil moisture.

Owing to their sessile nature, plants are easily affected by various extenal factors. Among those, drought and salinity are considered as the most common stresses, which often pose a threat to plant growth and development. Major effects of the drought and salinity are interconnected and drive similar series of molecular changes in plants.

Drought stress is a major limiting factor of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] production around the world. Soybean plants can ameliorate this stress with improved water-saving, sustained N2 fixation during water deficits, and/or limited leaf hydraulic conductance.

In the present study, PCA performed for phenological and yield component traits revealed that out of sixteen, only four principal components (PCs) exhibited more than 1.00 eigen value, and showed about 74.79 % total variability among the traits studied under stress condition while under normal condition out of sixteen, only five principal components (PCs) exhibited more than 1.00 eigen value and showed about 77.84% variability among the traits studied.

Water stress periods are common in rainfed agriculture therefore the activities aimed at conserving the rainwater should be adopted for improving the productivity of dryland crops. The major crops in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra are cotton, soybean and sorghum. It was observed that the drought situation may arise during crop growth period which may result in partial failure of crops. It was therefore felt worthwhile to adopt the proper methods of in-situ moisture conservation so as to partially meet out the adverse effect of water stress in standing crop.

Drought is one of the most important stress that reduce the growth yield and development of crops. Soybean is the most important source of food, protein and oil and hence more research is essential to increase its yield under different conditions including stress. Developing drought tolerance and other abiotic stress resistance soybean cultivars is an important goal throughout the world.

Studies on soybean GmNAC085 transcription factor revealed that the gene expression in plants was induced by water shortage treatments and its overexpression in the model plant Arabidopsis displayed improved plant tolerance characteristics towards drought stress. In this study, we continued analyzing the biological functions of GmNAC085 using transgenic soybean system overexpressing GmNAC085 gene, by targeting at a number of plant physiological features and biochemical activities in response to limited water growing condition.

Soils in dry environments, including Egypt, suffer from irrigation water shortage. To enhance crops performance under these adverse conditions, antioxidants that proved to support plants are applied. The vitamin ɑ-tocopherol (TOC) is an antioxidant compound that plays a crucial role in improvement of drought tolerance in plant species.

Drought is by far the most important environmental factor contributing to yield losses in crops, including soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]. To address this problem, a gene that encodes an osmotin-like protein isolated from Solanum nigrum var. americanum (SnOLP) driven by the UBQ3 promoter from Arabidopsis thaliana was transferred into the soybean genome by particle bombardment.
