A new fermented product of soybean milk (designated “PS-B1”) was prepared by a four-step complex culture using 16 lactic acid bacteria of human intestinal origin. Because living lactic acid bacteria are completely removed by filtration of the fermented product, PS-B1 can be classified as a biogenic food.

Phytophthora root and stem rot (PRR) caused by Phytophthora sojae is one of the most serious diseases affecting soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) production all over the world. The most economical and environmentally-friendly way to control the disease is the exploration and utilization of resistant varieties.

Presence of Kunitz trypsin inhibitor (KTI) in soybean seeds necessitates pre-heat treatment of the soy-flour for its inactivation before using it in food and feed products. The heat treatment not only enhances processing costs of the soy-based foods and feeds but also affects seed-protein quality and solubility.

Genetically modified roundup ready soybean in processed meat products in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
This work was conducted to monitor the presence of Roundup Ready (RR) soybean in processed meat products in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Seventy-two samples of processed meat products were collected from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) food market.

In this study, we attempted to develop a solid state fermentation method to produce Bt by testing different solid substrates and also the effects of water percentage, fermentation time, temperature and seeding rate on the productions of biomass and parasporal crystal bodies (crystal proteins) of the Bt strain PAM33.

Plant oils are very important for domestic and industrial use. Biodiesel can be obtained from plant seed oil. Biodiesel is currently popular and in demand due to the high cost of petroleum and to avoid pollution. It is time to increase plant seed oil production and conduct research to find ways of enhancing its production. We studied two species of oil seed plants, i.e. Ricinus communis and Glycine max, with varying amounts of oil content. Proteins from six categories of enzymes involved in fatty acid biosynthesis were selected for study.

Soybean is one of most important oilseed crop worldwide, however, its production is often limited by many insect pests. Bean pyralid is one of the major soybean leaf-feeding insects in China. To explore the defense mechanisms of soybean resistance to bean pyralid, the comparative transcriptome sequencing was completed between the leaves infested with bean pyralid larvae and no worm of soybean (Gantai-2-2 and Wan82–178) on the Illumina HiSeq™ 2000 platform.

Common cutworm (CCW) is highly responsible for destabilizing soybean productivity. Wild soybean is a resource used by breeders to discover elite defensive genes. The transcriptomes of two wild accessions (W11 and W99) with different resistance to CCW were analyzed at early- and late-induction time points. After induction, the susceptible accession W11 differentially expressed 1268 and 508 genes at the early and late time points, respectively.

Soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe, has been one of the most devastating pathogens affecting soybean production. In the United States alone, SCN damage accounted for more than $1 billion loss annually. With a narrow genetic background of the currently available SCN-resistant commercial cultivars, high risk of resistance breakdown can occur.

Phytophthora root rot (PRR) caused by Phytophthora sojae (P. sojae) is one of the most serious limitations to soybean production worldwide. The identification of resistance gene(s) and their incorporation into elite varieties is an effective approach for breeding to prevent soybean from being harmed by this disease.
