  • In this research, soybean was planted in soil collected from the Red River Delta of Vietnam to test two hypotheses: (i) drought reduces rhizosphere enzyme activities and hampers the extent of the high enzyme activity along single root (from the root tips), and (ii) the turnover time of substrate by enzymes increases with decreasing soil moisture.

  • Field experiment was conducted to evaluate effect of enriched composts on rhizosphere soil enzymatic activity of soybean in vertisols. The experiment was laid out in RBD with eight treatment replicated thrice. The enriched composts like Phosphocompost having 0.80 N, 1.65 P, 0.68 K, 0.39 S, C: N ratio of 20.44 and Nitrophospho-Sulphocompost having 1.85 N, 1.76 P, 0.92 K, 1.58 S, C: N ratio of 19.30 was used.

  • Plant growth promoting rhizo-bacteria (PGPR) affect plant growth by producing and releasing secondary metabolites (plant growth regulators/phytohormones/biologically active substances), facilitating the availability and uptake of certain nutrients from the root environment and inhibiting plant pathogenic organisms in the rhizosphere. At the same time, plants produce root exudates containing e.g. sugars, amino acids, organic acids, vitamins, enzymes and organic or inorganic ions.

  • In this study, the fifteen isolates of Trichoderma were obtained from rhizospheric soil samples of rice, soybean and mungbean from various locations of Pantnagar and Dehradun. These isolates were characterized based on their cultural and morphological characteristics. The cultural characteristics like colony colour, presence or absence of concentric rings, surface topography, pigmentation on the lower side of the plate, time of first appearance of green conidia and their growth at various temperatures were determined on the basal medium Potato Dextrose Agar.

  • An attempt was made to screen forty native AM fungal isolates from the soybean rhizosphere of Belagavi and Dharwad districts based on their peroxidise activity and total dry matter accumulation in soybean under the restricted water regime of -500 kPa. Top three fungal isolates viz., UASDAMFS15, UASDAMFS25 and UASDAMFS36 tentatively identified as G. maculosum, G. manihotis and G. globiferum respectively. For pot culture studies three irrigation regimes were maintained viz., -33 kPa -500 kPa and -1000 kPa. An experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with factorial concept.

  • Streptomyces spp. ANSP4 and ANSCa22 isolated earlier from rhizospheric soil of Akola district of Maharashtra were studied for their biocontrol potential against Rhizoctonia bataticola isolates from the same region. Both Streptomyces strains ANSP4 and ANSCa22 revealed growth inhibition of Rhizoctonia bataticola isolates R1 and R2 by dual culture method. Efficacy of independent applications of these strains on seedlings vigor index (SVI) of R1 inoculated Soybean seeds were tested by paper towel method. R1 inoculation of healthy soybean seeds resulted in drastic reduction in SVI from 1515.

  • In the present study on the basis of cultural, morphological, biochemical and 16s rRNA gene sequencing two rhizospheric bacteria were identified as Brevundimonas aurantiaca KY231210 and Enterobacter cloacae KY231211 and screened for their biosurfactant production potential by oil displacement assay, blood haemolysis assay and emulsification index with vegetable oils (soybean oil and sunflower oil) in different incubation period (0, 24, 48, 72 and 96h).

  • The rhizosphere is the region close to a plant’s roots, where various interactions occur. Recent evidence indicates that plants influence rhizosphere microbial communities by secreting various metabolites and, in turn, the microbes influence the growth and health of the plants. Despite the importance of plantderived metabolites in the rhizosphere, relatively little is known about their spatiotemporal distribution and dynamics.
