Dictionary learning (DL) for sparse coding has been widely applied in the field of computer vision. Many DL approaches have been developed recently to solve pattern classification problems and have achieved promising performance. In this paper, to improve the discriminability of the popular dictionary pair learning (DPL) algorithm, we propose a new method called discriminative dictionary pair learning (DDPL) for image classification.

This paper contributes an efficient denoising method for low-dose CT images. A noisy image is decomposed into three component images of low, medium and high frequency bands; noise is mainly presented in the medium and high component images. Then, by exploiting the fact that a small image patch of the noisy image can be approximated by a linear combination of several elements in a given dictionary of noise-free image patches generated from noise-free images taken at nearly the same position with the noisy image, noise in these medium and high component images are effectively eliminated.

This paper proposes an accurate, computationally efficient, and spectrum-free formulation of the heat diffusion smoothing on 3D shapes, represented as triangle meshes. The idea behind our approach is to apply a ðr;rÞ-degree Pade´–Chebyshev rational approximation to the solution of the heat diffusion equation. The proposed formulation is equivalent to solve r sparse, symmetric linear systems, is free of user-defined parameters, and is robust to surface discretization.

In order to treat high-dimensional problems, one has to find data-sparse representations. Starting with a six-dimensional problem, we first introduce the low-rank approximation of matrices. We illustrate and explain problems of n-grams-based machine translation (MT) metrics (e.g. BLEU) when applied to morphologically rich languages such as Czech. A novel metric SemPOS based on the deep-syntactic representation of the sentence tackles the issue and retains the performance for translation to English as well.
