  • Ebook "Many-electron electrochemical processes: Reactions in molten salts, room-temperature ionic liquids and ionic solutions" provide a unified concept for understanding multi-electron processes in electrochemical systems such as molten salts, ionic liquids, or ionic solutions. A major advantage of this concept is its independence of assumptions like one-step many-electron transfers or ‘discrete’ discharge of complex species.

  • Ebook "Free radicals in organic synthesis (Reactivity and structure concepts in organic chemistry, Volume 7)" has a comparatively long history. Before the accep- tance of the quadrivalence of carbon, various attempts were made to prepare trivalent carbon species like methyl and ethyl. Initial investigations involving reaction between alkyl iodides and zinc were thought to be successful but were subsequently branded as failures 2.

  • Antimicrobial resistance is becoming increasingly important in both human and veterinary medicine. According to the One Health concept, an important step is to monitor the resistance patterns of pathogenic bacteria. In this study, the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and trends of bacteria isolated from stray cats, hospital-admitted cats, and veterinary staff in South Korea between 2017 and 2018 were investigated.

  • Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are reactive compounds derived from oxygen. In biological systems, an excessive amount of ROS can cause oxidative damage to biological macromolecules being involved in different diseases. Several assays have been developed in the last 30 years for ROS evaluation.

  • The freshwater sponge collections of the National Museum of Natural History of Madrid were examined and the presence of Eunapius carteri (Bowerbank, 1863) in the Iberian Peninsula was rediscovered. An approach to its ecology is also presented. This species is not currently considered within the Iberian and Western European fauna. Therefore, its rediscovery changes the conception of this species’ biogeographical distribution in Europe linked to its ecology.

  • The taxonomic utility of internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) secondary structures in different plant groups, as well as in Brassicaceae, has been addressed by many studies. Although characterization and applications of ITS2 secondary structures for the members of main Brassicaceae lineages (Lineages I, II, III, and expanded Lineage II) have been studied, the utility of compensatory base change (CBC) species concept has not been the subject of any studies thus far.

  • The taxonomic history of Ceratocystis, a genus in the Ceratocystidaceae, has been beset with questions and debate. This is due to many of the commonly used species recognition concepts (e.g., morphological and biological species concepts) providing different bases for interpretation of taxonomic boundaries.

  • Whole mitogenomes or short fragments (i.e., 300–700 bp of the cox1 gene) are the markers of choice for revealing within- and among-species genealogies. Protocols for sequencing and assembling mitogenomes include ‘primer walking’ or ‘long PCR’ followed by Sanger sequencing or Illumina short-read low-coverage whole genome (LC-WGS) sequencing with or without prior enrichment of mitochondrial DNA.

  • For the last 25 years species delimitation in prokaryotes (Archaea and Bacteria) was to a large extent based on DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH), a tedious lab procedure designed in the early 1970s that served its purpose astonishingly well in the absence of deciphered genome sequences.

  • Cattle and buffalo are major livestock species for milk production contributing significantly to the economy of our country. High conception rates are crucial in a successful dairy farm to obtain a calf a year and sustained milk production. However, Repeat breeding continues to pose a major threat to economy of a successful farm. The main causes that convert high milk yielding dairy cattle and buffaloes into repeaters are mainly conception failure and early fetal death which may further have varying infectious and non-infectious etiologies, thereby severely disrupting the income.

  • In previous chapter, we introduced threads to the process model. On operating systems that support them, it is kernel-level threads not processes that are in fact being scheduled by the operating system. However, the terms "process scheduling" and "thread scheduling" are often used interchangeably. In this chapter, we use process scheduling when discussing general scheduling concepts and thread scheduling to refer to thread-specific ideas.

  • In this chapter, we discuss various ways to manage memory. The memory- management algorithms vary from a primitive bare-machine approach to paging and segmentation strategies. Each approach has its own advantages and disadvantages. Selection of a memory-management method for a specific system depends on many factors, especially on the hardware design of the system. As we shall see, many algorithms require hardware support, leading many systems to have closely integrated hardware and operating-system memory management.

  • Cattle is one of the major livestock species for milk production, contributing significantly to the economy of our country and continuous milk production needs regular conception and successful calf crop production. World-over, for dairy economy, there is emphasis on one calf per year per cattle. Successful calving follows survival of the conceptus through embryonic and fetal development.

  • Oxalates in edible mushrooms are the new concept for mitigating the kidney stones in humans. In the present study, a total of nine edible mushroom species were collected, out of which six were procured from the local vendors, growers and three from wild areas of West Bengal. The sporocarps of the collected mushroom were sterilized with alcohol and cleaned to detect oxalate contents in edible mushroom species. The total oxalate content of the raw, commercially grown mushrooms ranged from 44.1 to 92.

  • Greater emphasis on future constraints to agricultural production is motivated by the projections of environmental change. The speed of population, change in climate and environmental has pressurized the crop community to understand the importance of those stresses which may result in the significant declines in yield. Advances in data availability, advance information technology, and new and improved methods to target genotypes to environments have benefited the crop improvement practices. No methodology is found in literature which integrates factors like climate, soil, land cover etc.
