  • This study utilized a non-destructive technique through quadrat sampling to identify and measure mangroves’ biodiversity and carbon stock. The allometric equation was applied to quantify the carbon stock and Shannon-Wiener diversity index to determine the biodiversity. Twelve species were identified from the 36 sampling plot with 10 × 10 meter.

  • Genome size, i.e. the total amount of DNA in an unreplicated somatic nucleus is considered an important character in the biology of organisms, and it is especially relevant for land plants given the extraordinary diversity reported. Despite the continuous growth of data and the efforts aimed at increasing our understanding of plant genome size diversity, more data are needed to have an evenly representation across lineages.

  • In order to compare species compositions of ostracods, 25 streams and 15 lakes were sampled in the spring, summer, and autumn seasons of 2018. A total of 26 ostracod species were found in lakes (18 spp.) and streams (12 spp.). The Shannon index (H’) and evenness values of streams were higher than in lakes in all seasons. The highest H’ values for all combined (lakes + streams) and lake data were reported in the autumn season, and in spring the highest values were in streams.

  • Medicago ciliaris (L.) Krock and Medicago intertexta (L.) Mill are most often found in saline regions and are considered as potential resources for genes related to salinity resistance. To explore the genetic diversity of these two species by mean of nrSSR (simplesequence repeats) markers, 11 accessions originated from different regions in north of Africa and Middle East were chosen. Ten among 14 markers turned out to be polymorphic and gave 72 alleles. Eight markers were very informative with PIC values > 0.5, and three of them were found to be nonneutral.

  • Soil microflora and their diversity study are now modern trends to know the proper soil health. Greater diversity of fungi in soil indicates better health of soil. In this experiment agricultural soil, barren land and garden soil were taken for their micromycoflora study and the diversity of microfungi were analysed by Simpson index and compared among the three types of soil. Total 563 colonies were isolated from the 38 soil samples collected from three different ecosystem types. Sixty eight (68) different species belonging to 31 genera were recorded.

  • Using molecular markers one can examine genetic diversity of species, cultivars, lines and forms of sunflower, identify genotypes, systematize collection material, classify heterosis groups and construct genetic maps. Fourteen parental genotypes of sunflower viz.,CMS-2A, CMS-821A, CMS-850A, R-10-46-2A, CMS-A4, CMS-A6, CMS-A10, R-GM-39, R-GM-41, R-GM-49, R-GM-69, 83-Br, R-393 and R2F01120B were analyzed for genetic diversity using 15 RAPD and 44 SSR primers. The genetic similarity index computed considering pooled data of SSR and RAPD markers showed very wide range from 0.18 to 0.

  • Review study showed that CTPTR-CTW and ZTDSR-ZTW (RRRW) record the highest seed bank (SB) of grasses, sedges and BLWs as total weeds, in general; and predominant weeds i.e., Echinochloa spp., Ammania baccifera, Commelina benghalensis and Digitaria sanguinalis, in particular. It also showed the higher species richness (DMg) and Shannon–Weaver (H’) indices. CTDSRCTW and CTDSR-ZTW (RRR) show the lowest WSB and at par with Shannon–Weaver (H’) index; further, lowest species richness (DMg) under CTDSR-CTW.

  • Understanding the genetic variability and diversity of a crops species provides opportunity for plant breeders to develop new and improved cultivars having both farmer-preferred and breeder-preferred traits. In the present study 11 morphological characters and 16 quantitative characters were recorded from 27 advance breeding lines/varieties to identify useful alleles for future breeding. Genotypes varied considerably in plant growth and morphological characters. The overall mean of ShannonWiener diversity index (H’) value was 0.
