Specific trade concern

This thesis is concerned, centrally, with the responses to NPM from two perspectives: local government and organised labour (specifically national and international trade union organisations). Two themes recur in the policy debates around NPM: the effects on the quality of public services and the impacts on employment. Both are examined in this thesis as they had been under-researched and were overshadowed in the research literature by an economistic concern with costs and technical efficiency.

In particular, the number of cases hit a record high of 200 in 2009 following the international financial crisis. TBTs are standard-related regulations that serve as trade barriers but can also positively impact trade. This study investigates the impact of China’s imposition of TBT on Korean manufacturing industry exports from 2002 to 2014.

Many important decisions are based on the results of chemical quantitative analysis; the results are used, for example, to estimate yields, to check materials against specifications or statutory limits, or to estimate monetary value. Whenever decisions are based on analytical results, it is important to have some indication of the quality of the results, that is, the extent to which they can be relied on for the purpose in hand.
