The control of bacterial spores resistant to sterilization is important for the microbiological safety and integrity of foods. Spores are considered sub-lethally injured during the sterilization process but remain alive and can germinate and grow under non-stress conditions during storage and distribution.

Green synthesis of nanoparticles is one of the most effective processes at a very affordable cost. Green synthesized nanoparticles have wide range of antimicrobial property. Thevetia peruviana is commonly called as yellow oleander has chemicals (thevetin A and thevetin B) which help in bio-reduction of metals and antimicrobial property.

Zooplankton holds a key position in the food web as it was directly related to the consumption of organic energy produced by phytoplanktonic photosynthesis and then by transforming it to the higher tropical levels of hetirotropes such as fish. Some zooplankton population disappeared at a specified period and reappeared during other period. This disappearance may be due to the fact that some species occur in spores, under favorable conditions spore germinate and appear as zooplankton.

Antagonistic potentiality of four isolates of Trichoderma species viz. Trichoderma viride isolate A, Trichoderma viride isolate M, Trichoderma harzianum isolate C and Trichoderma harzianum isolate L against Beauveria bassiana causing white muscardine disease of Silk worm, Bombyx mori L, was studied invitro by studying the mycelial interaction between them as well as by the effect of culture filtrate of biocontrol agents on sporulation and spore germination of pathogen.

Fig rust caused by Cerotelium fici is one of the most important fungal diseases on Ficus carica responsible for about 50 per cent losses both in terms of yield and quality of the produce. The fungal spore germination is affected by the nutrient availability and environmental factors like temperature and relative humidity. Therefore, an experiment was conducted with respect to the uredospore germination of C. fici at different concentrations of sugars, temperature and relative humidity

Twenty eight fungal endophytes were isolated from leaves, 33 from stem and 21 from root, resulting in a total of 82 fungal endophytes from apparently healthy groundnut plant parts and evaluated these endophytes against major fungal pathogens viz., Sclerotium rolfsii and Rhizoctonia solani by dual culture technique and against Puccinia arachidis by spore germination technique.

The present study was done to investigate the histopathological effect of the entomopathogenic fungi, Metarhizium anisopliae on Odontotermes obesus using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Adult worker termites were inoculated with 1x109 conidia/ml suspension of the fungi and maintained at 25±1°C temperature and 80 % relative humidity. SEM study showed that when this mitotic (asexual) spore (called conidia) of the fungus came into contact with the body of the termite, they germinated and the hyphae of the fungus that emerged penetrated the cuticle.

Adiantum caudatum Linn. is an important medicinal fern belonging to the family Adiantaceace, coming under Pteridophytes. It is used traditionally in folklore as ethno medicine to treat various diseases like cough, cold, throat infection, skin disease and diabetes. The in vitro life cycle of A.caudatum L. starting from spore germination, gametophyte formation, followed by micro morphological study and reproductionwas thoroughly studied in knop’s (Kn) and Knudson’s medium (Kc).

Among four isolates of Moesziomyces penicillariae the incitant of pearl millet smut, cultural, morphological and pathogenic variability was studied. The isolates were collected from four different pearl millet growing regions of India. Among the four isolates no variation was observed in size of spore balls but significant variation was observed in their germination percentage. Out of the six different media used, potato dextrose agar medium enriched with 50 g pearl millet grain and 20 g sucrose supported maximum growth of the fungus and least growth was observed in oat meal agar.

The teliospores of Sorosporium paspali-thunbergii were observed in spore balls of 17-34 x 42-57 µ. The individual teliospores are globose, sub-globose, angular in shape and yellowish brown to dark brown in colour. The size of teliospore ranged 6-13 x 4-19 µ. Maximum teliospore germination was observed in 2 % glucose solution over 1 % glucose solution and tap water. Maximum radial growth was observed in Potato Dextrose Agar medium followed by Oat Meal Agar medium, Corn Meal Agar medium and Czapek’s dox Agar medium.

Inhibitory potential of silver nanoparticle (AgNP) at concentrations of 10, 20, 50 and 100 ppm was assessed on two foliar phytopathogens viz. Bipolaris sorokiniana and Alternaria brassicicola. Antifungal activity of AgNP was found to be significant in reducing germinating spores as well as mycelial growth of both pathogens in an experiment under controlled condition. AgNP at a concentration of 20 ppm was found effective to inhibit spore germination in B. sorokiniana as well as A. brassicicola. AgNP at 100 ppm resulted in restricting maximum mycelial growth for both pathogens.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are obligate symbiont and integrate with most of terrestrial plants. AMF belongs to the phylum Glomeromycota that cannot complete their life cycle without establishing a functional symbiosis with host plant. In the present investigation, Glomus intraradices Spores were surface sterilized and transferred to different media viz., one per cent water medium agar medium, Murashige and Skoog medium. Modified Strulla Romand (MSR) medium and white’s medium with root exudates of Agrobacterium rhizogenes MTCC-532 transformed hairy roots of chickpea.

Concentrations of three aluminium compounds significantly affected the mycelial extension of Trichoderma viride with low pH values growing on agar media, and the largest effect was recorded with aluminium chloride. Experiments in this work showed that there were significant relationships between Al concentration and pH in the Al inhibition of fungal activity on agar media.

Pathogenesis Contamination of wounds with spores of C. tetani is probably a frequent occurrence. Germination and toxin production, however, take place only in wounds with low oxidation-reduction potential, such as those with devitalized tissue, foreign bodies, or active infection. C. tetani does not itself evoke inflammation, and the portal of entry retains a benign appearance unless coinfection with other organisms is present.
