The objective of this study was to assess morphological and genetic diversities of 48 forage pea landraces collected from different locations at different altitudes in Turkey. Morphological, quality, and yield features were determined for the landraces and three control cultivars in three subsequent years. Genetic diversities of the landraces and cultivars were also monitored using microsatellite (SSR) markers. Our results revealed that the features of landraces are significantly different.

Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) has many favored nutritional and agronomic traits, which makes it appropriate for cultivation and consumption all around the world. Genomic resources for proso millet are still very limited but the set of genomic data is improving. In this study, we genotyped six Slovenian landraces of proso millet (P. miliaceum L.) along with one Slovene autochthonous cultivar, Sonček. The chosen set of 11 SSR markers showed that there is low overall heterozygosity (0.561) among Slovenian landraces of proso millet.

Rice recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of Japonica x Indica cross were grown in irrigated conditions for identification of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for yield associated traits. One hundred twenty one RIL lines were evaluated in the field environment. A total of one hundred twenty two SSR markers were used for polymorphism out of forty markers that showed parental polymorphism. Forty SSR markers were used to construct the genetic linkage map. In total, nine QTLs were identified for yield attributing traits.

Using molecular markers one can examine genetic diversity of species, cultivars, lines and forms of sunflower, identify genotypes, systematize collection material, classify heterosis groups and construct genetic maps. Fourteen parental genotypes of sunflower viz.,CMS-2A, CMS-821A, CMS-850A, R-10-46-2A, CMS-A4, CMS-A6, CMS-A10, R-GM-39, R-GM-41, R-GM-49, R-GM-69, 83-Br, R-393 and R2F01120B were analyzed for genetic diversity using 15 RAPD and 44 SSR primers. The genetic similarity index computed considering pooled data of SSR and RAPD markers showed very wide range from 0.18 to 0.

Earliness, an adaptive trait and factor of variation for agronomic characters, is a major trait in plant breeding. In present investigation, the experimental material comprised of P1, P2, F1, F2 and F2:3 generations of wheat crossDL-788-2 X GW-322 for earliness related traits with objective of linkage and QTL mapping in bread wheat. Out of 200 SSR markers screened for parental polymorphism for earliness related traits, only 11% of SSR markers showed good polymorphism between two parental lines.

Five mungbean varieties released by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU911, SML668, ML818, ML613 and SML832) were characterized using morphological and molecular markers. Phenotypically these varieties showed variation for growth habit, leaf and flower characters, pod colour, position and length, plant height, seed coat lusture and seed size during different growth stages of the crop. Plant morphology characters being polygenic in nature are liable to be influenced by the environment.

The reference marker set (30 markers) was used to evaluate the genetic diversity and DNA fingerprinting of 19 standard reference rice varieties. The results showed the similarity coefficient of 19 varieties varied from 0.04 to 0.548. At the genetic similarity coefficient of 0.1, the 19 rice varieties divided into two main groups. Group one included 3 varieties: DH1, DH5, DH13. Group 2 included the remaining 16 varieties. Inside group two, phylogenetic tree divided into two main branches at the genetic similarity coefficient of 0.3.

The SSR technique was used to reveal the genetic diversity among wheat (Triticum aestivum) and its wild relatives and secondly to test the hybridity of wheat (Triticum aestivum) F1s. All the thirteen SSR primers showed 100% polymorphism and except one, all the primers generated unique bands, so these primers can be used for genotype identification. Also four primers showed heterozygous nature of F1s by giving two bands, one from each parent at a particular locus, so these markers can be used for screening purpose also.

Sorghum bicolor is most important cereal crops around the world where the availability of water is less. Study of genetic variability among the sorghum accessions will enable accurate results in breeding programme and in mapping studies. By using SSR markers evenly distributed on sorghum genome revealed that, all the 20 accessions originated from Marathwada (Maharashtra) region were grouped into three main classes and it show correlation with the biological status and other characteristics features of accessions.

Bread wheat is most cultivated cereal used as food over 95% of the population. Twenty wheat genotypes were assayed to study the genetic diversity using molecular markers. The seventy-five alleles were identified with a mean of 2.34 alleles per locus using 32 SSR markers. Majority of SSR markers showed a high level of polymorphism. PIC values ranged from 0.05 (WMS-169) to 0.75 (CWM-107), with an average of 0.38 per primer. The RP value of primer ranges from 0.92 (WMC-177) to 1.94 (WMS-169) with an average value of 1.51, which explains the ability of primers to resolve the studied germplasm.

The simple sequence repeat (SSR) or microsatellite marker is currently the most preferred molecular marker because of its reproducibility and codominant nature. The aim of this study was to validate SSR markers for bacterial wilt (BW) and tomato leaf curl virus disease (ToLCV) in tomato. DNA isolated from the parents Mukthi and IIHR-2195 was used to validate five SSR primers already reported for BW and ToLCV. One primer SSR20 which showed good polymorphism and reproducibility among parents were selected for further validation in F3 and F4 population.
