Osteomyelitis is the infection and inflammation of the bone. Inappropriate use of antibiotics and multidrug resistance has raised the morbidity and mortality rate in chronic osteomyelitis. This study aims to determine the bacterial profile and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of chronic osteomyelitis with special mention to various resistant mechanisms. Samples from osteomyelitis cases were aerobically cultured and isolates from culture positives were identified by standard procedures. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done by Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method.

The present study was carried out to detect the sensitivity pattern and prevalence of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) at tertiary care hospital, Surendranagar. Total 1776 Clinical specimens were studied. All the isolates were identified by standard microbiological procedures like gram staining, colony morphology on solid culture media and biochemical reactions. Antibiotic sensitivity testing was done for all isolates by modified Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method. Total 194 Staphylococcus aureus were tested for MRSA by Cefoxitin disc diffusion test...

An intrauterine device used by more than 150 millions of women worldwide is one of the most efficient methods of contraception. The aim of the study is to compare the genital tract microbial flora of women prior to and after insertion of IUCD and to find out the relation of microbial flora of removed IUCDs with duration of its use. The study included 40 women who came for IUCD insertion and 80 IUCD users who came for follow up and/or removal of IUCD. High vaginal swabs, endocervical swabs and IUCDs were collected and subjected to Gram staining.

Mechanical ventilation is a life-saving procedure, but it is associated with a high risk of acquiring respiratory infections. Hence to prevent it and initiate empirical antimicrobial therapy, knowledge of microbial profile and their local antimicrobial sensitivity pattern are essential. A prospective analytical study of Endotracheal tube (ETT) aspirates of mechanically ventilated patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was done over a period of six months (Dec2015-May2016).

Meat is a highly perishable food which is easily susceptible to microbial contamination. There are various factors which affect the freshness of the meat the most important factors are storage temperature, time of exposure of meat to extrinsic factors and handling of carcass during and after slaughter. Hence a study was conducted to compare the microbial load in chevon carcass hanged at room temperature for 6 hours and at chiller temperature for 30 hours. Twenty four numbers of 6 months old tellicherry young male goats were selected and they were slaughtered by the standard procedure.

The study was aimed to investigate the quality of soil polluted with dye effluents in Sokoto. Soil samples were collected from different dying centers in Sokoto in order to determine microbiological and physicochemical changes of soil using standard procedures. The results revealed the average count of viable bacteria in sampling sites that range from (1.05 x 106 cfu/g – 1.5 x 105 cfu/g) compared to that in control site (5.1 x 105 cfu/g) while the fungi were (2.0 x 104 –5 x 104 cfu/g).

The increasing resistance to many antimicrobial agents is seen in Staphylococcus aureus in all healthcare facilities. The commonest antibiotic for the treatment of the Methicillin and multi drug resistant Staphylococcal infections is clindamycin. Emergence of these resistances in Staphylococcus aureus has resulted in failure of clindamycin therapy. A total 220 Nasal swabs from healthy persons were collected and processed by standard microbiological procedures.

Biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis is a common cause of chronic infection and intravascular device failure. Biofilms are resistant to almost all available drugs rendering them difficult to treat. Thus, there is a need to identify natural compounds which can inhibit biofilm formation. A total of 52 multi drug resistant isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis were isolated from various clinical samples. Isolates were identified by standard microbiological procedures.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the commonly isolated gram negative bacillus from various clinical samples. It is a commensal in healthy individuals but can be opportunistic pathogen especially in hospitalised patients. It is intrinsically resistant to many antibiotics. Hence the present study was undertaken to study the prevalence and antibiotic sensitivity pattern in our hospital. Various clinical samples like pus, sputum, urine, vaginal swab, pleural fluid, ear swabs and tracheal aspirate received in the microbiology laboratory were included in the study.

Dermatophytes are keratinophilic fungus that infects skin, hair and nails. They belong to the genera Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton. Some infections are caused by non dermatophytic filamentous fungi which are often resistant to treatment used for infections caused by dermatophytes. Hence this study was taken up to isolate and identify the causative agents of dermatophytosis and guide in the institution of proper therapy. Methods: All skin, hair and nail samples from suspected cases of Dermatophytosis were processed according to the standard microbiological procedures.

Bacterial infections are most commonly encountered by clinicians in developing countries. Area-specific monitoring studies done to assess the type of pathogens and their antibiotic sensitivity patterns which help the clinician to opt for best empirical treatment. The hospital based cross sectional study is conducted on various samples collected using sterile techniques from 2474 clinically-suspected cases attending RDBP, Jaipuriya Hospital from Jan 2016 to Dec 2017 and tested bacteriologically using standard conventional procedures.

K. pneumoniae is responsible for a wide variety of hospital and community-acquired infections, affecting patients with normal immune systems as well as those with pre-existing conditions. The Carbapenems are β-lactam antibiotics that are used in the treatment of infections caused by Extended Spectrum beta-Lactamases (ESBL) producing gram negative bacteria (GNB). Carbapenem antibiotics are considered the drugs of choice for the treatment of ESBL -producing Enterobacteriaceae and other multidrug resistant bacteria.

Over the period of years infections caused by multidrug resistance organisms has emerged as a major public health problem. Their prevalence rates vary in different parts of the world and hence local data regarding these pathogens were important. Our study was aimed to identify the presence of ESBL and AmpC producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates from various clinical samples in our hospital setup various clinical samples were processed consecutively during the study period for microbiological analysis as per standard operating procedure.

Benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) is a non- malignant condition characterized by proliferation of prostatic cells leading to an increase in prostate size, urethral obstruction, and lower urinary tract symptoms. For men, prostate hypertrophy with bladder outlet obstruction is reported to be the major predisposing factor for the development of asymptomatic bacteriuria.
