This study aimed to determine subclinical mastitis (SCM) caused by bacterial species, using chromogenic culture media and to assess the antimicrobial resistance rate in the isolated bacteria. From March to December 2023, 143 milk samples were collected from 71 Holstein Friesian cows with SCM across seven dairy farms in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the most predominant agents that cause nosocomial infections. Objectives: To determine the rate of MRSA and the molecular characteristics of the coagulase encoding gene of these isolates based on polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP).

Fish produce mucus substances as a defensive outer barrier against envi-ronmental xenobiotics and predators. Recently, we found a bioactive pro-tein in the mucus layer of the flounder Platichthys stellatus, which showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococ-cus aureusand methicillin-resistantS. aureus.

Impetigo contagiosa is a superficial streptococcal or Staphylococcus aureus infection consisting of honey-colored crusts and erythematous weeping erosions. Occasionally, bullous lesions may be seen. (Courtesy of Mary Spraker, MD.) The classic presentation of impetigo usually poses little diagnostic difficulty. Cultures of impetiginous lesions often yield S. aureus as well as GAS. In almost all cases, streptococci are isolated initially and staphylococci appear later, presumably as secondary colonizing flora. In the past, penicillin was nearly always effective against these infections.

Pathogenesis of Fever Pyrogens The term pyrogen is used to describe any substance that causes fever. Exogenous pyrogens are derived from outside the patient; most are microbial products, microbial toxins, or whole microorganisms. The classic example of an exogenous pyrogen is the lipopolysaccharide (endotoxin) produced by all gramnegative bacteria. Pyrogenic products of gram-positive organisms include the enterotoxins of Staphylococcus aureus and the group A and B streptococcal toxins, also called superantigens.
