Learning English vocabulary is perhaps one of the most difficult tasks in the process of learning the international language: English. This is even more challenging for freshmen at universities. Therefore, we hope that via this paper, first and second-year students at universities nation-wide generally and Banking University freshmen and sophomores specially, will have a chance to be exposed to effective vocabulary learning methods and strategies and from that enhancing their chances of improving their English levels.

The time has come when well-organized and thoroughly worked out transfer grammars should be developed. Such a grammar should be composed of formal statements equating the construction-types of the input language with those of the output language and indicating the appropriate transformations which must be made to produce the target language constructions.

Consider the inverse eigenvalue problem of the Schr¨dinger operator deo fined on a finite interval. We give optimal and almost optimal conditions for a set of eigenvalues to determine the Schr¨dinger operator. These conditions are o simple closedness properties of the exponential system corresponding to the known eigenvalues. The statements contain nearly all former results of this topic. We give also conditions for recovering the Weyl-Titchmarsh m-function from its values m(λn ).

We prove that knowing the lengths of geodesics joining points of the boundary of a two-dimensional, compact, simple Riemannian manifold with boundary, we can determine uniquely the Riemannian metric up to the natural obstruction. 1. Introduction and statement of the results Let (M, g) be a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary ∂M . Let dg (x, y) denote the geodesic distance between x and y. The inverse problem we address in this paper is whether we can determine the Riemannian metric g knowing dg (x, y) for any x ∈ ∂M , y ∈ ∂M . ...

TWO-POINT BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS FOR HIGHER-ORDER LINEAR DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS WITH STRONG SINGULARITIES R. P. AGARWAL AND I. KIGURADZE Received 4 April 2004; Revised 11 December 2004; Accepted 14 December 2004 For strongly singular higher-order linear differential equations together with two-point conjugate and right-focal boundary conditions, we provide easily verifiable best possible conditions which guarantee the existence of a unique solution. ON THE EXISTENCE OR THE ABSENCE OF GLOBAL SOLUTIONS OF THE CAUCHY CHARACTERISTIC PROBLEM FOR SOME NONLINEAR HYPERBOLIC EQUATIONS S. KHARIBEGASHVILI Received 20 October 2004 For wave equations with power nonlinearity we investigate the problem of the existence or nonexistence of global solutions of the Cauchy characteristic problem in the light cone of the future. 1. Statement of the problem Consider a nonlinear wave equation of the type u := ∂2 u − ∆u = f (u) + F, ∂t 2 (1.1) where f and F are the given real functions; note that f is a nonlinear and u is an unknown real...

RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful tool to silence gene expression post-transcriptionally. Delivering sequences of RNAi in vivo remains a problem. The aim of this study was to use JC virus (JCV) virus-like particles (VLPs) as a vector for delivering RNAi in silencing the cytokine gene of IL-10. Methods: JCV VLPs were generated by recombinant JCV VP1 protein in yeast expression system. DNA fragment containing IL-10 shRNA was packaged into VLPs by osmotic shock. Results: In RAW 264.7 cells, IL-10 shRNA was found to reduce IL-10 expression by 85 to 89%, as compared with VLPs alone.

Abuse of addictive substances is a serious problem that has a significant impact on areas such as health, the economy, and public safety. Heroin use among young women of reproductive age has drawn much attention around the world. However, there is a lack of information on effects of prenatal exposure to opioids on their offspring. In this study, an animal model was established to study effects of prenatal exposure to opioids on offspring.

Spectral extrema for graphs: the Zarankiewicz problem L´szl´ Babai∗ a o Barry Guiduli†Submitted: Jul 12, 2007; Accepted: Sep 21, 2009; Published: Sep 25, 2009 Abstract Let G be a graph on n vertices with spectral radius λ (this is the largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of G). We show that if G does not contain the complete bipartite graph Kt,s as a subgraph, where 2 t s, then λ (s − 1)1/t + o(1) n1−1/t for fixed t and s while n → ∞. Asymptotically, this bound matches the K˝v´rio a Tur´n-S´s upper bound on the average degree of G...

In this chapter we investigate a general optimization problem in a real normed space. For such a problem we present assumptions under which at least one minimal point exists. Moreover, we formulate simple statements on the set of minimal points. Finally the existence theorems obtained are applied to approximation and optimal control problems.

BRINGING FORMS TO LIFE The ability to reuse the same script—perhaps with only a few edits—for multiple websites is a great timesaver. However, sending the input data to a separate file for processing makes it difficult to alert users to errors without losing their input. To get around this problem, the approach taken in this chapter is to use what s known as a self-processing form. Instead of sending the data to a separate file, the page containing the form is reloaded, and the processing script is wrapped in a PHP conditional statement above the DOCTYPE declaration that checks if the...

Problem statement: Dilute sulphuric acid and enzymatic hydrolysis methods were used for sugar extraction. Xylose and glucose sugars were obtained from corn cobs. Approach: Acid hydrolysis of corn cobs gave higher amount of sugars than enzymatic hydrolysis. Results: The results showed that optimal temperature and time for sugar fermentation were approximately 25°C and 50 h by two yeast strains (S. cerevisiae and P. Stipitis) respectively.
