  • The experiment was carried out with a RIL (F7) population (100 lines out of 189 lines available) raised by crossing between Gobindabhog and Satabdi. They were grown in the Regional Research Sub- Station, Sekhampur, and Nadia. Out of eleven quality parameters, kernel breadth, ratio of length and breadth after cooking, elongation ratio, aroma and colour of kernel possess significant difference between two parents. Similar set of alleles for 100 SW is present in both parents as evidenced from the fact that 85% of RILs was within the narrow range of two parental values.

  • This study aimed to find the gene action, GCA and SCA effects for yield, its components and micronutrients and their association with each other. For this, thirty six crosses (hybrids), nine parents and two checks ICTP 8203 Fe and ICMB 98222 (totalling 47 genotypes) were evaluated during Kharif 2014 at three locations viz., IARI, New Delhi (zone A), IARI Regional Centre, Dharwad (zone B) and National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Regional Station, Jodhpur (zone A1). These locations represented all pearl millet growing zones.

  • The present study was jointly undertaken at the Frozen Semen Laboratory, U.T. of Jammu & Kashmir, Hukkal, Jammu and Division of V.G.O., F.V.Sc & A.H., SKUAST- J, R.S.Pura, during the period between December 2017 and May 2018. This investigation was carried out with the objective to study the effect of antioxidant semen additive ascorbic acid on cryopreservation of semen.   • An experiment comprised of six male sterile lines, eight inbred testers of pearl millet, their 48 hybrids and two standard check (GHB-538 and GHB-558) was conducted at Regional Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat in Kharif 2014 for studying the extent of hybrid vigour in F1 for grain yield and its components. The cross JMSA-9904 x AIB-15 showed highest and significant standard heterosis for total effective tillers, ear head girth, grain yield per plant and panicle harvest index.

  • The rice variety Ratnagiri-8 (IET 25493; RTN 28-1-5-3-2) was evolved from the cross between IR64 and Karjat 184 using former parent as female through pedigree method of selection. The above variety is midlate in duration (135-138 days in Kharif), Semi-dwarf (102-110 cm plant height). Ratnagiri 8 rice variety recorded 38.52% higher grain yield over HYV’s medium slender check Palghar 1 pooled over five years testing in Station Trial.
