In Karnataka Mandya district is one of the important paddy growing area. Mono cropping, faulty cultivation practices with continuous submerged conditions are causing higher pest and disease incidence and leading to lower yield. In this context KrishiVigyana Kendra, Mandya demonstrated integrated pest and disease management practices in 30 farmer’s field. The objectives of the study were to minimize the use of chemical pesticides and to establish the use of eco-friendly management practices.

The yellow stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is one of the major pests in all rice-growing regions of India. An experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Derol, Dist. Panchmahal, Gujarat, India during kharif(rainy) season in 2011 and 2012 to know the effect of soil and foliar application of silicon on the incidence of yellow stem borer, S. incertulas in rice.

The pest population density is controlled by logistic growth model. The logistic model is applied to find out the carrying capacity, equilibrium level and its solutions. In this model time varies continuously and the population is unstructured. The population members are of homogeneous group. By using the logistic growth model, the Equilibrium levels and maximum supportable population that is carrying capacity and the stability of equilibrium state of the important rice pest stem borers are calculated.

A field experiment was carried out at Rice Research Station, Chinsurah, Hooghly during kharif, 2013 and boro, 2013-14 to evaluate the compatibility of selected insecticides with fungicides against yellow stem borer (YSB) and sheath blight (ShB). The trial included nine treatments consisting of insecticides, pre-mix flubendiamide + buprofezin and triazophos and fungicide, hexaconazole and tricyclazole which were applied alone as individual treatment and in four possible combination treatment with untreated control. The experiment was laid in RBD with three replications.

Studies were carried out to evaluate the impact of abiotic factors on dominant pest complex of SRI during summer season of 2014-15 and 2015-16 at Instructional Farm, Jaguli, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Nadia, West Bengal. Multiple correlation and regression coefficients were also computed to establish the relationship between weather factors and dominant pest complex (weeds, insects and diseases).

Rice, (Oryza sativa L.), is liable to infestation with several insect pests, from which the rice stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is one of the most destructive and widely distributed throughout the india. To determine the extent of parasitization of yellow stemborer egg masses, the egg masses were randomly collected at weekly intervals depending on the availability from rice fields, and brought to the laboratory for collection of emerging parasites.

The main cause for the death of insects due to fly ash application was wearing of mandibles and main feeding organs of insects which resulted in functionless mandibles so that the insects of paddy die without food. Further, the incidence of major insects was negatively correlated with yield. Application of fly ash as a source of silica and potassium with SSB, FYM with STBK reduced the incidence of Brown plant hopper, Green leaf hopper, Stem borer and increased the yield in rice.

Field trials were conducted during the kharif season of 2016 and 2017 in the farmers’ field of Kalain and Borkhola development block of Cachar district of Assam for evaluation of efficacy of insecticides and biopesticides against rice stem borer and leaf folder in the field of High Yielding Variety (HYV) rice, Ranjit. The experiment comprised of 4 treatments including the farmers practice (FP). The study revealed that, lowest mean percentage of infestation of rice stem borer and leaf folder i.e. 3.52 and 2.58 per cent was recorded after 90 days of application with 85.27 and 89.

The relative resistance or susceptibility of nearly 215 rice genotypes supplied by Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad was screened to identify the resistant genotype against rice yellow stem borer. The trial was conducted following augmented block design with two checks i.e., local check (BPT 5204) and susceptible check (TN1) for a period of two successive kharif seasons (2016 & 2017). The per cent incidence of stem borer was recorded at their peak infestation of dead hearts at tillering stage and white ears at reproductive stage.

This survey was conducted in rice field during kharif season of year 2017 at Pusa farm of Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar. The important egg parasitoids of major insect pest of rice were observed for stem borer egg mass and leaf folder egg mass. The dominant egg parasitoid actively present throughout the kharif season on stem borer eggs was Trichogramma japonicum, it was found most active during the 33rd standard week of August 51.42% and least active in the 30th standard week of July 3.03%.
