Acute lung injury (ALI) and its severe form acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are respiratory failures caused by excessive alveolar inflammation with high mortality. In this study, we investigated the effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on lung injury of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI and explored the associated mechanisms. The membrane maintained stability under enzymatic conditions for up to 16 days of incubation. The results confirmed tBP as a cell-friendly scaffold for hADSCs due to low cytotoxicity and its ability to support an appropriate attachment and proliferation of hADSCs. Moreover, there was an accumulation of the extracellular matrix proteoglycan in tBP seeded with hADSCs after 7 and 14 days of chondrogenic induction. COMP as a specific marker of chondrogenesis was detected after 7 days, whereas type X-a1 collagen (Col10a1) expression was stable up to day 14.

The osteogenic differentiation markers BMP2, BMP4, COL1A1, OPN, OCN and PF4 evaluated using RT-PCR. The tumor dimensions in the hMSCs group were significantly higher than those of the remaining groups (p < 0.01). The number of metastatic foci in the BMP2+hMSCs group was significantly lower than those of the other groups (p < 0.01). The current results showed that the intraperitoneal route could be efficiently used for targeting hMSCs to the tumoral tissues for effective BMP2 delivery.

Sclerotinia Stem Rot (SSR), caused by the fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is ubiquitous in cooler climates where soybean crops are grown. Breeding for resistance to SSR remains challenging in crops like soybean, where no single gene provides strong resistance, but instead, multiple genes work together to provide partial resistance. In this study, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed to dissect the complex genetic architecture of soybean quantitative resistance to SSR and to provide effective molecular markers that could be used in breeding programs.
