Removing the third molar is a common dental surgery that often results in swelling and discomfort, impacting the patient's wellbeing. Previous studies have shown that auricular acupuncture (AA) can effectively alleviate pain after surgery. This study aimed to assess the pain-relieving benefits of AA for patients undergoing third molar surgery.

Corticosteroids have become the cornerstone of therapy for many pathologies such as vasculitis. Steroid psychosis is a known complication of corticosteroids therapy, although infrequent. We describe a case of psychosis secondary to corticosteroids in a 69-year-old man with large-vessel vasculitis without previous history of psychiatric pathology.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a hematological disorder characterized by immune-mediated destruction of platelets that could be triggered by a number of causes. ITPs are usually treated with steroid, immunomodulators or immunosuppressors, and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy though refractory/relapsed status frequently occurs.

Thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, reticulin myelofibrosis/renal insufficiency, and organomegaly (TAFRO) syndrome is treated using corticosteroids and/or immunosuppressive agents as first-line therapy. We report the case of a 69-year-old female with TAFRO syndrome in which the patient presented multiple organ failure and steroid resistance, which was successfully treated using plasma exchange (PE) followed by rituximab.

Polyphyllin I (PPI) is a naturally active steroidal saponin that has good therapeutic effects in various cancers, such as liver and lung cancers. However, owing to its non-selective distribution in various tissues, it is toxic and has side effects on normal human organs while taking effect.

Persistent monoarthritis in otherwise well-controlled rheumatoid arthritis presents a therapeutic challenge. Intra-articular (IA) steroids are a mainstay of treatment, though some have queried whether IA disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD) and biologics can be used in those who fail steroid injections.

Species of Paris Sect. Marmorata are valuable medicinal plants to synthesize steroidal saponins with effective pharmacological therapy. However, the wild resources of the species are threatened by plundering exploitation before the molecular genetics studies uncover the genomes and evolutionary significance.

Previous studies found increased case fatality after myocardial infarction and more frequent sudden death in RA patients compared to non-RA subjects. The RA associated CV risk might be explained by the combined effects of chronic systemic inflammation and increased lifestyle associated cardiovascular risk factors, and modified by the use of medication such as non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids and disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs.

Cryptococcus is one of the major fungal pathogens infecting the lungs. Pulmonary cryptococcal infec‑ tion is generally considered a community-acquired condition caused by inhalation of dust contaminated with fungal cells from the environment. Here, we report a case developing pulmonary cryptococcosis 3 months after hospital admission, which has rarely been reported before.

Tracheobronchial stenosis is a known complication of endobronchial tuberculosis. Despite antituberculous and steroid therapy, the development of bronchial stenosis is usually irreversible and requires airway patency to be restored by either bronchoscopic or surgical interventions.

Severe non-allergic eosinophilic asthma (SNEA) is a rare asthma phenotype associated with severe clinical course, frequent exacerbations, and resistance to therapy, including high steroid doses. The key feature is type 2 inflammation with predominant airway eosinophilia.

The most commonly applied treatment for acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) is a 5-day course of high-dose systemic corticosteroids. However, this treatment has not been shown to reduce mortality and can potentially have serious side effects.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that involves various organs. Surgery is the mainstay of therapy for this tumor. Approximately half of all IMT cases have anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangements; therefore, the ALK inhibitor crizotinib is suggested as a promising treatment for unresectable cases with ALK rearrangements. In cases withoutALK rearrangement, chemotherapy is an alternative treatment for unresectable tumors.

Steroid therapy, a key therapy for inflammatory, allergic, and immunological disorders, is often associated with steroid myopathy as one of the side effects. Steroid therapy is considered the first-line therapy for myositis; however, there have been no reports strictly comparing the muscle mass in patients with myositis before and after steroid therapy.

Recent studies have reported that radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy (rESWT) reduces pain and improves function in patients with mild to moderately severe carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) compared to a placebo. However, most of those studies used multi-session rESWT combined with wrist support and evaluation of efficacy was limited to a maximum of 14 weeks.
